Skye Life - The Patch Job Part 2
“Coming in!” Mathias shouted padding back in and shoving the cup with all the gathered tools into Serena's hands as he doused his own.
Serena held the washcloth to Vas with one hand, the tools in the other. “C’mon puppy,” she said under her breath. “Open your eyes. Be okay.”
“Yea you kind of KOed him with the pain meds.” Mathias assured her carefully moving the stranger to check for exit wounds. So far it looked like there were only two that needed to be pulled out. He started with the chest wound and it was an agonizingly slow process, a street doc might have been much faster with the same tool but Mathias had limits on his medical expertise. He did know taking it slow was better. Mathias didn’t know how much time passed but it felt like an eternity before he wriggled the bulled out. He quickly packed the wound and taped it down. He didn’t bother wiping the sweat off his face, there just wasn’t time before he worked on the kid’s shoulder. Mathias felt like a butcher at the moment but there was little choice. The shoulder by far was easier. Less important things to mess up. It took less time to pop the bulled out and poach the wound. He cleaned up and wrapped the other gunshot wounds that had passed through. He finally sighed able to sit back a moment and breathe still riding high on the adrenaline from the sudden surgery. “I’m going to need to go to the lab for antibiotics.” He going to need it.” He said absently, his tone tired and weary.
“We don’t have any here?” Serena asked, dabbing Vas’ head with a washcloth. “The nanomites should keep him from getting infected.”
“I have no idea what you're talking about, you have a lot of explaining to do … and cleaning.” Mathias said taking in the mess of the bathroom alone.
“Thanks Mathias,” Serena said dismissively. “I’ll make sure an’ clean up, ‘course. S’long as he’s okay.”
“You going to have to keep an eye on him. Check on him often. Clear out the ice as soon as his temp goes down and don’t let him sit in too long either.” Mathias said his head pounding and got up stiff and aching from a combination of being in an awkward position and pushing himself after a long run of slinging drugs for over 24 hours. He was past exhausted. He grumbled as he washed his hands in the kitchen and since a shower was out of the question he shuffled straight to the couch. Mathias just collapsed on it, not bothering to change, not even taking off his shoes, he was barely away as the main support finally gave out making a horrific dip in the middle. He was going to feel that when he woke up in a few.
“I won’t let him outta my sight,” Serena promised, slumping down on the bathroom floor next to Vas, shutting the door with her foot. “I’m here, Puppy. I’m here.”
