JP- out of the frying pan
Bella whined again, staring at Bronte as she tugged at his arm gently.
Bronte looked at Bella, still feeling panicked. “Huh?”
Bella just stared up at him, apology in her eyes.
“Wh-what is it?” Bronte asked.
Bella didn’t know what else to do so she just sat there and panted, tail wagging.
Bronte decided to get back in his car. If those monsters turned up he wanted to be able to escape.
Bella got in the back seat again and curled up. It looked a bit silly with the cast covered broken leg, but she was still utterly adorable.
Bronte started the engine and let the car idle. He prayed he was safe.
Bella eventually fell asleep for a bit until the pain woke her up and she started to whine, ears folding back.
Bronte looked at the dog girl nervously, then at his gas gauge. He was running low. There were gas pumps nearby. He checked his pockets, hoping he still had his wallet.
Sadly, he did not have his wallet. Coral made sure to toss that…
Bronte sighed and began counting the change in his ashtray.
Bella sniffed at the change as he counted it, always curious. Her ears perked up when she heard the sounds of the helicopter, though. Poking her head out a window, she barked at the sky.
Bronte looked up at the helicopter. “I hope that’s for me.”
Bella just kept barking until it landed near them.
Poor Bronte was afraid to get out of his car. He watched the helicopter in paranoia.
MegaCorp soldiers were soon surrounding Bronte’s car, guns aimed at both him and Bella. “Got them…” One of the men said in a cold tone.
“Not again.” Bronte whispered.
Bella whimpered and tried to back further into the car, pressing against Bronte as the soldiers moved in closer. They would get both Bronte and Bella out of the car, cuffed and collared before taking them to the helicopter.
“Took us a long while to hunt you down.” One of them said, glaring at Bronte.
“Didn’t expect to find Clonestone’s bitch, though,” Another one said with a laugh.
Bronte hung his head. He already had a collar from the Underground suppressing his powers. The MegaCorp collar was so much heavier. He had spent the past five years living quietly, not giving MegaCorp any reason to go after him again. All for nothing. How did they find him? Had Delilah betrayed him? Why?
“What? Nothin’ to say?” The first soldier asked. “Guess not. We found ya thanks to Coral…kinda. No one wants her back, though.”
Bella was being held tightly in place by a leash, muzzle on her face and ears folded back as she tried not to be choked to death.
Bronte noticed Bella almost being strangled. “Don’t be so rough on her, she hasn’t hurt anyone.”
The soldier looked down at her and loosened the leash a bit, but wasn’t going to let her move far. “Why do you care, kid?”
“She’s innocent.” Bronte said, watching poor Bella.
“So?” The soldier snorted. “Just shut up.”
They would soon arrive at the facility and drag both Bronte and Bella inside. The dog girl had a hard time keeping up due to her broken leg and kept whimpering in pain. There were dark streaks through her fur where tears fell down her face.
“She has a broken leg- you don’t have to be so rough with her!” Bronte protested.
The soldier shoved Bronte into a secure room. “The bitch isn’t any of your concern now, kid.” He said and slammed the door shut. A loud pain filled yelp was heard as they picked up Bella and carried her away…only, they didn’t get far before Bronte would hear yelling and blood would splatter the window of his door.
