The Inner Jungle pt. 2
Not sure if the Arbiter took his offer or even heard him, he still gripped his blade in preparation for his vigil. With no other way to pass the time, he returned to his thoughts, though he was glad he had more control outside of his dreams.
He still had one question hebhad been asking himself for a while now. Was this worth it?
Had he made a mistake coming here and doomed himself? And now he had to ask if it was worth the trip just to die in a cave?
Was this Slivikhi spitting back in his face? Maybe it was the Imp’s final joke to play? It was a more humorous thought, but it didn’t bring any laughter.
They had escaped just to be cornered like pigs for the slaughter and while it brought anger and a lust to kill them all, it brought weariness as well. Would he even get that luxury or would they chase them to exhaustion and THEN kill them.
Wasn’t ideal either way.
He wondered if Alexis had begun some sort of search. Knowing her, probably. She was a good kind of reckless like that.
He also wondered if she had figured out about the mold, though once again, probably. Another reason he had grown fond of her.
He couldn’t, then, feel guilt about ditching them under its influence. Sure he had the idea plenty of times before, but in his right mind he would have tried to get her to leave with him. So then why had he not fought the idea if it wasn’t him making it?
The more he thought about it, the more he tried to justify and it never felt right. She was the closest thing to a crew he had here and he had abandoned her.
Not that it would matter now. Lost in the bowels of Fang, he didn’t even know if she had survived. He doubted he would even survive to find out.
Peering into the void they had come from, he silenced his doubts to focus on surviving just a few moments more.
