What If

JP with Redsword, Winteroak and Cindy

Peeking inside you notice the room is smaller than you might think from the outside. It's a square room, tall dilapidated columns, holding up a circular ceiling that seems to open up into a shaft. In the wall across from the entrance there is what looks like an altar. A small slab of granite elevated from the floor and decorated with etchings of flame.
"Fosia..." The boy says again and walks towards it.

Islana followed the boy inside and looked around. Based on the outside, the huntress expected something more of a grander scale but it was smaller than that.

Letting her gaze circle the room, while the columns looked dilapidated, Islana wasn't getting the impression the place was going to fall down around them.

Her hand traced over the etchings. Fire. This was still confusing her.

Thinking on it a moment, was it possible his people had a god of fire? So, not one god but different gods than what Islana knew.

So, maybe the statue was of their God of fire.

Did that mean that they might have a god of something like the earth?

She pointed to the alter and said, "Foisa" and then pointed at the ground but had no idea if the boy would understand what she was asking.

Watching Islana and the boy, Wolf walked up to the altar. He looked around for any writing or symbols. Looked even closer at the slab to see what could have been sacrificed. "I think your right Islana, Foisa could be a god of his?" says Wolf. Looked at the pillars and around at other stuff in the room. "I think we are dealing with clans," Commented Wolf.

Islana nodded at what Boyce said, then asked, "Do some clans have gods of things like earth, air, and water?"

That seemed to just make sense, in her mind, if there was one, there was likely more.

'The short answer is yes." replied Wolf. "This makes more sense now to me," Wolf said.

"You see, the main difference between tribe and clan is that tribe refers to a group of clans collectively who usually do not involve in the mainstream culture of a particular nation, whereas clan refers to a group of people who are bound together by kinship or lineage," Wolf explains now back at the alter.

"Unity and togetherness are the foundation of any tribe or clan. However, there exist several socio-political and structural variations when you closely look at the social units of tribe and clan." Wolf says, running his fingers over the flames looking at what tools they might have used to engrave the granite.

The explanation Boyce gave made sense, she had never really understood the difference before.

The next thought she had wasn't so great. Clans, and tribes were the people that the inquisition seemed to want to wipe out. Anything, that went against what they had deemed as "correct." They were also the same people the Duke wanted a war against. Yet, the clans had been here first. It had never seemed right to her, after meeting the Ash Hooves and now looking at the boy it seemed wrong, perhaps even more so.

Which brought her back to an earlier thought.

"What if there is no one left for him?" With a nod towards the boy.

They had never discussed, what happens then.

Wolf wanted to avoid that conversation. "For now we take him with us," said Wolf, not sounding sure or happy. That was something Wolf was not used to. He did not know if he could raise the boy if he had to.

Islana didn't know what to say, not to Boyce's words but his tone. He was unsure and she wasn't used to hearing that from the man.

The fact they were bringing the boy with them if he had no one didn't surprise her, she would have made sure that happened, anyway. Islana also couldn't imagine the two men with her leaving him behind.
