Alexis stepped back into the shadows, silently watching the lantern’s journey to the sky. She had - finally - been on her way to greet Voah, fairly sure the Arbiter would be just as much of an early riser as herself, when she had happened upon this private and a little sad scene.
So it was Voah’s natalday today.
Alexis had not celebrated her own natalday in quite a while. It wasn’t that important to her anymore, with her next of kin gone by now.
But judging by this, to Voah, it still was.
As she stood and contemplated the Arbiter’s lonely form, the mercenary made a decision. Instead of joining Voah, she quietly returned to her own camping grounds, addressing everyone present when they were finally up.
“It would appear it’s Voah’s natalday today. Sooooo, I was wondering. Would y’all be up to improvise a little surprise party?”
With all the support she could have asked for the preparations moved a long quite smoothly. The bonfire was all ready to be lit, music would be graciously provided by Boyce, and with Gonyaul around, getting people to dance should not be that much of a problem. Nicolaus actually had some tea worthy ingredients with him, so that was covered, too. Food and drink were organised as a team effort, and they even managed to obtain some berries. Far from the whole ten yards that Zin’s ward would usually consist of, but with this being Voah, still better than leave it out completely.
Just in time everything was ready to go. Alexis went to visit Voah and Hunter at their makeshift prayer tent as the sun started to set, excusing herself for only getting around to greeting them now and ‘spontaneously’ inviting them to join her group for the evening.
And when they approached their camping ground, the bonfire was lit at just the right moment and the Arbiter was greeted with loud cheers and well wishes.
Alexis turned to Voah, gesturing invitingly to the merriment.
“Admittedly, it’s a bit bare bones, with circumstances and short notice and all. But I still hope you’ll enjoy yourself tonight. Happy natalday, Voah.”
