One Step Forward

Hunter’s contribution to the shrine was exceptional. The newly carved wooden effigy of Cambena had been painstakingly stained and oiled. This would ward off weathering by the elements, retaining its shape for a longer period of time.
After aiding Voah with the Shrine to Cambena, he was excused to train and hunt since she had things to do. When he got back he saw Cora was looking pale and skinny from not eating. Hunter quickly nursed her with a bath, muscle massage and soup. He tried to talk to her but was returned with a painful silence. He avoided eye contact since she had a distant but sad expression. He had hurt her even though she was there for him. Then after she was fed he looked at her and spoke.
Hunter: I am sorry Cora. I am trying to be there for you but, I don't know what to say or do to fix this. Perhaps its best if I leave.
Hunter stood up and turned to gather his things when he felt a tug at his pants. He turned his head to see Cora was reaching out to him and holding him with her thin pale arm while looking down at the ground. He felt a knot in his stomach like he did when he realized he killed Nora.
Hunter: Please tell me what you need.
Cora muttered to him.
Cora: Stay.
Hunter felt the pang in his chest echo as he heard her words. He turned to her and knelt before her with a sad expression in his face. She caressed his cheeks as tears rolled down her eyes and for the first time since seeing her dead sister, she cried on Hunter's shoulder. He held her for what felt like an eternity before taking her to bed for a rest. He hoped she was making progress but since he lacked the skills to deal with emotions he felt like a fish out of water.
Then next day made breakfast, then trained before eating with Cora and then went hunting again. After butchering the meat he kept some in his smoke shack and took the rest to the butcher and tanners. They of course were glad to see his numbers to aid in the tax hike from the Duke. Once Hunter recorded his kills he went shopping for some vegetables and spices before going back to Cora. He felt uneasy but at least she was talking to him again. He was not sure what to expect, but he hope it was a step forward.
