Around the Fire: Who is Wolf?
JP with Alexis, Wolf, Islana, Gonyaul:
Gonyaul enjoyed just being in the presence of the current company. Providence had turned a detour of trials and tribulation into an enjoyable destination. He knew it may not last, tomorrow may be the end of it. So he was determined to value every moment in the now.
His eyes were closed as he daydreamed alongside with the music Wolf was playing. When the man took a small break Gonyaul felt the urge to ask that infamous question he was known for.
Looking at Wolf he inquired. “Thank you for sounds.” He paused, “what is your story?”
Still playing he matched his story with the cords of the music.
"Born in the shadow of the Great Library of Orb, in the Capital of The Empire of Salos,
My family is made of scholars, I had a comfortable life too. " Wolf half singed it.
Wolf continued "I was above average in most things that I studied and put my hand to,
Like my parents had a hunger for knowledge too.
Others saw me as being different because of the knowledge I knew,
My grandfather trained me in what I know, Was trained to go out and find books and scrolls you know.
Archaeology is may main trait but languages are known to,
Now I just want to study and learn more about Arcadia and the world.
Meet the people that I see, Make new friends, live for a challenge of life and it is knowledge I seek." Wolf smiled as he kept playing.
Gonyaul made a mental note of how effective storytelling was when accompanied by music. He imagined how each person’s personality could produce different sounds. He looked to others and smiled as melodies popped up in his thoughts regarding them. He wondered what he would sound like if turned into a song.
Wolf’s words were very interesting. He did his best to keep up with all of them.
With an impressed expression he asked, “what favorite ever thing to learn?”
Wolf paused "history, language, the natural world, Archaeology. People and the lives they live or lived. I believe the Quill is stronger than the Sword" It's what I live by, believing that words can be stronger than steel. "
“And did you manage to make some leeway with the languages of the tribes? I managed to catch up on a few words and phrases back at the keep, but not nearly as much as I’d like to.”
Alexis asked, genuinely interested.
Wolf played some then answered, "some I can just about get my point across something like a small child." Wolf said.
The mercenary nodded.
More than she could claim for herself. She would like to change that, somewhere down the line.
"I will say I know words not so much of their grammar. point name it and use the word equivalent to trade. That's about it so far." Wolf explained.
Gonyaul liked his answer. If only more in the world sought understanding and wisdom. Perhaps there would be a much better discourse and solutions to problems, instead of division and the creation of more trouble.
Gonyaul had not met these plains people yet. He hoped one day that he may have the pleasure of doing so. He was curious if such a scholar would know his tongue?
“Atana aw uhsnohin o ubanam emat in ubanam on ag usedikusiad. Ihsataw ag inan o etti uri on ak ettihs uri arihsak?”
Wolf thought on it "Northern Natives I think" not too familiar with that one." answered Wolf.
With the paste, successfully made, Islana was busy tanning the hide and just listening to the, interesting, conversation going on.
Gonyaul smiled. Nope. It was to be expected. He kept silent and said the same thing again using Vauxian sign language to Wolf. Perhaps he knew something about their primary means of communication. It was worth a shot.
Wolf thought on it and then answered in Vauxian sign language. well, bits of it.
Gonyaul’s expression lit up with enthusiasm. Wolf’s form wasn’t completely executed, but he could see an actual word form every now and then that was recognizable. Wolf wasn’t technically speaking, just announcing words randomly. Gonyaul wondered if that is what he came across like when he spoke to them in the common tongue?
“You paint some words into the air good.” He laughed encouragingly.
Gonyaul realized he wasn’t going to be able to communicate with Wolf in either way, but it felt great to see it. It made him instantly think of home. In his meditations were the only times he visited his people and could relive the past.
Wolf smiled "I am willing to learn if you would honor me and teach it to me." Wolf said humbly looking excited.
Gonyaul thought seriously on Wolf’s words. What would his elders do? He was not entirely sure and he didn’t have the luxury of inquiring. This type of situation never occurred growing up. He just had to be honest.
“First, know you better. All words born from truth and trust.”
He smiled, for he wasn’t trying to be rude. He was simply honest.
Alexis looked thoughtful.
“You know, Gonyaul, if you are willing at some point, I think I would like to learn a bit, too. I can’t help but feel I miss half of the conversation with you sometimes.”
