Remaining duties

Alexis stood witness to the execution start to finish.
She had been somewhat surprised to see Voah take over, as were the officials.
Would have preferred to see her again under different circumstances.

When the deed was done and the crowd moved on to celebrate that display of ‘justice’, the mercenary opted to return to the keep.
She felt numb.
Exhausted, too. Both physically and mentally.

She got herself and her equipment cleaned up and went straight to her quarter, not interested in
seeing or speaking with anyone at all.
Returning to her bunk, she noticed the letter Nicolaus had sent her.
She had not a had quiet minute since she got it and no chance to respond to it.

So maybe she should see him tomorrow and apologise. Collect the antidote and hear if he had some new insights on the drug.
That brought her thoughts back to the cult.
She sighed. This was far from over. And something she didn’t want to become a loose end, regardless where she decided to go from here. So as she had resolved at Hendrik and Jiyn’s burial she would try and see it through.
What came after that… well, she would have to see then.

With those thoughts, Alexis lay back and closed her eyes, welcoming the temporary oblivion of sleep.
