Ongoing Dock Inspections
Sergeant Carver continued her surprise inspections around the docks. They checked casually for permits and papers of the businesses they came across. All of it was simply a front for trying to identify the assassin. Aside from the grumbling of workers and owners having to stop what they were doing to accommodate the quick inspections, everyone seemed to be agreeable enough to move things along efficiently. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary in how the guards were conducting themselves, making it seem more like a routine than something not to be expected. The word of their presence in the docks; however, spread quicker than a strong wind in a sail.
Gonyaul kept his eyes open for his attacker; however, in the meantime he also was taking in the sights and sounds of the docks itself. He had not spent much time at all here since his arrival. He saw fishing boats, a ship, laborers, a few buildings that facilitated shipping, cranes, a dry dock, the shipping guild headquarters, warehouse spaces, and a small seafood market.
There was the smell of the sea mixed with seafood (of which there were creatures he had not ever seen before), wood, ropes, men at work, etc... He could hear the sound of gulls, rigging and sails in motion, feet on the piers, materials being offloaded or transported, ocean hitting the edge of the settlement, carts and wagons moving along the ground. It was a busy place; smelly, dominated by the sea; noisy, dominated by the variety; and visually, dominated by the work.
He was mindful of the Sergeant's command to keep his hood on and cloak around him, even though it would have felt nicer not to. The guards around him seemed to be vigilant in scanning the area for any anomalous behaviors. For the most part, people gave the group of soldiers a wide berth and ignored eye contact as they went about their duties.
