First bank and trust
Wim walked in to the Drunken Hare to find the place busy. A few people glared at him and he smiled back gently.
A man who had watched his conversation with Sir Zane, and his skipping the registration table, went and talked to the proprietor. Wim knew that someone would write his name in the book for him. Probably Sir Zane as he swore at his lazy ass and toasted his father. A middle age woman full of smiles and cheer came over and guided him to a table near the back corner. She shooed two ship Captains off to a different table which had him receive more glares. He wanted a small table that was in the back, in the dark. This one had windows so she could show off that she had a lordling in the house. A brunette serving girl tried to get his attention by bringing a big bowl of meat stew and a bottle of the houses best wine.
After a little while people started coming up to talk with him. Halfway through his bowl a begger came up asking for mercy. He followed the ships doctor’s advice not to over eat or over drink and gave the man the other half of the bowl while praising how wonderful and filling it was.
Two beautiful thing happens for Wim that afternoon, the first was he found his calling and bought into a place to stay cheap. (Little did he know it would be a money pit.)
His new place was formerly a small brewery that had burned, killing one of the two brewmasters in town. Once cleaned up it would be perfect for what he wanted to do, make paper. The second was he found himself in the banking business, it was more polite than calling it Loan Sharking.
The idea came to him as he was looking for paper. He had been writing contracts and logging the information in his book. That was when he realized that paper was his key to get rich. He could take the local produced product call them exotics and put fancy labels and they could be sold for a premium back home. He had the connections to open a new markets for the goods produced over here. People of the colony would get rich and he would get wealthy taking his cut. He could also get goods they needed that were extravagant here to exploit that wealth.
By dinner time, he had planned to financed a future shipment. He would write letters to friends and former associates, describing the wonderful and exotic goods from this strange and beautiful place. He would ask them to invest and suggest places he might market these goods. He would get this done before the ships left port, well everything that did not take much money.
Voah appeared through the her charming air that cards leave table, pick pockets squirm, and the room go a bit silent. Wim did not notice at first till she stood at the table as he counted out coins for a young man after he signed the paper and the book.
Voah looked at him informing him about a stolen box. He looked shocked at this news and let her know that he would listen for any news of it and if it came his way, he would return it.
Later he tabulated that he was going to be wealthy if this worked out. He realized he needed partners. He knew some of them would default, but they had put items up as collateral. He could drag them before Sir Zane.
