Timestamp: Sentinel Island - River camp
Till was relieved when the swordswoman Alexis asked him to stay behind. She obviously knew that sailors looked at wrecks as bad omens. He nodded at her when instructed to set up camp.
As far as he could tell they were on hostile territory and they needed to keep their presence hidden as much as possible. Usually that meant cold camps and cold meals but with the miserably rainy weather he thought a fire would help a little. Of course smoke was easily spotted during the day and fire by night but he had picked up a clever little trick from the Torzo people out of Kr'ull in the borders with the Forsaken Lands.
A Torzo fire pit was simple fire that produced little to no smoke. By digging two small holes parallel to one another, one for the firewood and the other to provide a draft of air, one could easily hide the glare of a fire but also the smoke as it burns from the top downward. Because the air passes freely around the fuel, near complete combustion is achieved, the result being a fire that burns strongly and brightly and with little or no seen smoke.
If Alexis wanted the fire off at night, well that was easily achieved. In the meantime he started boiling some water he drew from the nearby stream to prepare some pocket soup for the group.
He watched the Arbiter working on her wards. Never could he have believed he would be so close to one such as her. He made the sign of waves and bowed his head, giving thanks to Cambena. She was not as he had imagined am Arbiter to be, but than again, maybe she was different.with him because he had recovered her sword.
Rumours were already spreading through the city that she had met with the natives and had seen magik thriving in Arcadia.. And if that was true that could mean only one thing. A new Inquisition. The gods themselves commanded that magik users be exterminated everywhere they were found.
When she was done she sat around the peculiar fire pit he had dug into the ground. She smiled at him as she did usually.
"Is it true?" He blurted out before he could stop himself." That the native practice magik and offend the gods?"
