The dinner, under the calm leadership of Sister Locust, was a gathering of minds and hearts, a rare opportunity for open dialogue amidst the brewing conflict. However, as the courses were served and the conversation flowed, the elders of Desdem brought forth their concerns, casting the inevitable shadow of reality over the hopeful undertones of the evening.
Taneus, Desdem’s patriarch, addressed the assembly with a grave tone. "We understand the necessity of unity in these trying times," he began, his gaze lingering on Sister Locust. "However, the presence of such a formidable force within our lands, especially in the wake of the spring's sandstorm, places a heavy burden on our community."
He looked at the other elders who nodded. “Cerim.” One of the women spoke now.
“Indeed. All but one of our harvests suffered greatly and I feel our stores will soon be stretched thin. The loss of livestock has also diminished our resources. We will have trouble sustaining ourselves, let alone providing support to the Sand Horde for much longer with winter approaching.”
