Up In The Trees
"Perhaps," was Islana's response to Jiyn's comment. "I suppose the reality may be that he may never have the capacity to tell." Which Islana thought was a tragic state to be reduced to
Once Hendrick gave the order, Islana started investigating the area more. The first thing she did was move closer to the trees with the rune like carvings on them.
The young woman hadn't noticed before but it seemed apparent now the tree seemed to be "bleeding". She was aware it wasn't actually blood but it was a reddish sort of sap that almost looked like blood.
Her eyes focused on the ground for a moment, finding a stick, with the stick she put some of the sap on it and got a closer look at it. What she was looking for, Islana couldn't have said but she had an overwhelming feeling that she shouldn't touch it.
There was more howling; a noise that Islana had heard much of during her time living in the woods. She had learned to not let it unsettle her; especially after some wolves had come to her, in the past. In the woods she had lived in, the wolves had come to know her a little anyway. Enough for her to not be concerned or bothered by them. Those were not these woods, those wolves not these wolves, facts of which Islana was aware. Still, the howling seemed more like a warning than a threat.
After gathering the sap Islana peered up in the trees. Nests but not nests. It was a little hard to tell from down here what those objects were from down here. She sized up the tree and the time left. She found an area on the tree with no runes and no sap.
"Jiyn," calling the young soldier over, "can you stay down here? I want to get a better look."
Before the soldier could say yes or no
Islana was up the tree to investigate the objects closer. As there appeared to be no one in the trees, she assumed or hoped it was fairly safe, if she was quick enough about it.
