Take Him, If You Can
Judging by the soldier’s armor, Voah knew the woman was a descendant of Aloss… an ancient enemy. What did she want with Gonyaul?
It didn’t seem possible but Voah could feel the energy that resided naturally within her had strengthened. Her subconscious mind had awakened to provide a sort of natural guard that allowed her to perceive dangers more passively. She had gained faster reflexes, better muscle memory, and automatic defensive responses. She was still recovering, but she knew inside that in a battle, she would be quicker and sharper than ever before.
Voah dismounted her horse and stood poised with one hand on the hilt of her Holy Sword, extending her awareness to any other hidden foe or trap.
Staring down the pale woman, Voah gave the warning, “Take him… if you can, Alossi.”
Alexis followed Voah’s lead, affixing her shield to her arm, likewise ready to draw her sword. She had no idea what to expect from such a mythical enemy, but honestly… just another day in Arcadia, she supposed.
In the end it didn’t matter. They would not just hand over Gonyaul. It was as easy as that, to whatever end.
Watching Voah dismount, Tarmen felt a cold resolution settle over both parties. This wasn’t going to end well and again he hesitated to follow his instincts.
Holding his horse’s straps steady with one hand, his other settled on his machete, ready to charge regardless of his doubts.
He could continue his soul searching once he knew he was going to be alive.
Gonyaul was struggling and looked absolutely ridiculous in his attempt to get back up on Amu from the deep sand below. He made a mental note of how different it was than being on more solid ground so he didn’t make the same mistake again. He was finally able to right himself.
His dark doe-eyes were scanning the happenings taking place. His mind was reeling trying to figure out what was going on. In the end, he was clueless. He wanted to interject that maybe everyone could just calm down and they could talk over whatever this misunderstanding was. One look at Tarmen’s expression let him know though, that this was serious and probably beyond the point of civility.
This stranger wanted to take him? Where? Oh … or did that mean kill him? Gonyaul swallowed hard, having forgotten too while he was stupefied by the events unfolding.
