Village Chores
Chores for the Vaux children took place three times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening) and were scheduled in rotations. Over the course of time they would get to experience being apart of everything that took place in the village in order to make it practically run on a daily basis. As some chores were seasonal, this was also taken into consideration when mapping out their tasks over the years. By the time they were young adults, they had full exposure and hands on experience. They would then continue onward with the universal chores, expected of everyone; however, would transition into apprenticeships based on their skills, aptitude, kagims, and needs of the community. This process ensured, that even if someone was ill or unavailable, there was someone else in the community that would be able to fill in at a competent level.
When younger, chores were done under the supervision of older Vaux; sometimes this meant older children that had proven reliable and consistent. Once older, it was guaranteed that they would be in a leadership role mentoring the next generation. All chores were done with teamwork. Some tasks required as few as two, such as sweeping, while others required many such as preparing the food for the daily community meals.
During the afternoon chores, Rruelyn (13) and Gonyaul (11) got along splendidly. Apparently Rruelyn had gotten over his tiff that Zendayul (12) was spending more quality time with Gonyaul lately over him. After talking it out together, Rruelyn learned that she had been spending extra time, when available, with Gonyaul so that he could help her design and learn to braid a hair style; Gonyaul had the reputation of being the best "creative" out of the group of friends. It was the same hairstyle that Zendayul had gifted to Rruelyn that very same morning.
With chores completed, the two made their way to the center of the village, about midway up the canopy, to join the rest of their peer group on a very large, and more decorative, platform that spanned several trees. This was Gonyaul's favorite time of day. It was time for dancing and performance lessons with Orohc Shenliyu. While the movement and kinesthetic lessons of martial arts class were fantastic, Orohc Shenliyu's training gave Gonyaul even more opportunity to release his creative expression.
As he lined up with the others he had the usual huge smile on his face in sweet anticipation on what the lesson would be today.
