Gonyaul having inspected every inch of the egg as best he could, handed it carefully back to Voah. Gonyaul thought about her perplexing question, ~should both sides be evenly armed?~ He was not so sure that was a good idea for either side.
They had politically leaning talks before in their travels together, and Gonyaul had made it clear to Voah he didn’t consider himself as a Helian or even a member of the Ostiarium society. The Vaux didn’t prescribe to nationalism, instead they preferred to champion all life. In fact, he had expressed to her before that he thinks the Helians are in error for being in Arcadia at all with their imperialistic agenda and genocidal tendencies. It would be better if they just went back home and focused on what belonged to them instead of coveting what was not. They were like burglars that came in the night, to steal, kill and destroy. Instead of leaving once caught though, they decide to throw out the rightful owner of the home. It was all opinions and mute at best, because the reality was they were here and the conflict was now.
“I think more evenly match, the more damage will be done. Better, I think, to have both sides unmatched. I mean disarmed.”
He paused, was that even humanly possible? Looking to Voah for her opinion he inquired, “Maybe we can go talk to people in charge and convince them to stop before it is too late? I could make them a gift.” There was that innocent puppy dog look in his eyes again. The notion that kindness would triumph over aggression.
Voah’s lips pressed into a hard line at the naive yet hopeful suggestion. She patted him on the arm and turned away for a moment think. What could she say that didn’t sound condescending? She didn’t think him a fool, but it was just… unrealistic.
“Your proposal is well meant, darling… and idealistic. And I would agree that they should all be disarmed, but it...what you suggest... well it is highly impractical… considering that it will now be a holy war from both sides and not some territorial dispute…. it would be especially impossible to deescalate such a conflict now that the fighting has begun in the east with a victory for the Helians, according to Vastad’s account.”
