Voah felt the old comforting words caress her lips as she whispered them, “Suffer not the witch to live… Smite mine enemies…”
But there was no hate behind the words, it just seemed like the right thing to say.
She looked to Alcuin, nodding at her own decision and saw the intensity in his eyes.
“Take the witch first, destroy the eggs. Try not to get killed.”
Malacost eyes glistened in the dim light of the torches. He gripped the pommel of his sword tightly and pulled a large knife from his belt. He whispered another prayer.
He looked at Voah and bowed his head.
"Bless me Arbiter. I will be your shield tonight as you bring the justice and mercy of the Pillars upon the wicked."
He was ready to go when she was. She nodded her approval to proceed.
Letting Alcuin lead the charge, the rogue-Arbiter rose to the top of the dune and strode forward, letting the shifting sand do some of the work for her as she moved toward her target and Alcuin moved toward his. On another night, moonlight would have gleaned off of the Holy Sword, but tonight, the blood witch would meet the dark steel of Ereuhin’s shadow.
Malacost slid down the dune as silently as he could. Without light outside the ritual circle they were like two wraiths rising from the shadows of the desert coming to claim the souls of the infidel.
The witch had moved to stand in front of a woman in the opposite cardinal point she has started the ritual and from where Malacost and Voah were attacking.
He ran into the circle not able to stop the sound of his boots. The men feeding the scorpion tried to turn but Malacost lobbed his head off with one powerful swing. The bounty hunter kicked the chittering creature towards the central fire as the others shouted in shock and alarm.
He threw his knife towards the closest man to his left taking him on the face, trying to swift their attention away from the approaching Arbiter.
With a blood curling scream he moved towards the other rising figures.
Alcuin launched himself into battle like a man possessed and following closely behind his fury was Voah. She closed in on the witch and swung the blade but was met with the curved steel of a scimitar, forcing her blade to slash the witch’s robes.
Not wanting to delay and understanding better how to maneuver against this kind of weapon, Voah moved her body with the blade, almost like a dancer, and elbowed the woman who dared to stay her hand.
She immediately followed it up with an unrelenting flurry of attacks, spinning to slice into the dark robe’s left side, kicking her back from the circle before cleaving the blade into her neck and clavicle, felling the woman.
Voah turned her attention back on the witch but kept an eye out for other dark robes who were already on their feet.
