Alexis knew she could not dally for much longer. She forced her eyes away from the flames and onto the assassin that was already trying to crawl towards his assorted weaponry.
She easily beat him to it, of course, with him still tied up thoroughly and he fell back in resignation, awaiting his death by her hand. Alexis without a word collected his blades and the black outer robes, even though she didn’t know wether they would be of much use. It was likely the members of the Brotherhood knew each other pretty well, and she wasn’t much of an actor. But better have ‘em and not need ‘em than need ‘em and don’t have ‘em, as they said.
She regarded the man for a moment, pondering, before smiling a smile laden with some resignation of her own. She took one of his daggers, holding it firm in preparation for a throw. The assassin closed his eyes.
Snapping them open again when the sharp blade embedded itself into the ground inches from his face.
He looked at Alexis uncomprehendingly, as she quietly held his gaze for another few seconds before turning her back on him, starting to leave.
“Wh-what? You… you are not going to kill me?!”
Alexis stopped, turning her face to him.
“I don’t have to. You can’t exactly tell your brethren about this, can you? They’d kill you where you stand. With more creativity than I could ever muster, undoubtedly.”
His expression easily confirmed her claim.
She pulled her scarf over her head and started walking again.
A few breaths later, he screamed after her.
”Don’t you dare! I’ll kill you!! I’ll find you and I’ll kill you! Slowly! You will wish you’d never been born!!”
Alexis turned around and looked at him, prompting him to pause in his raging, expecting her to finally end him.
But she just slightly smiled. Not mockingly. Not condescendingly. Almost wistfully.
“That’s alright.”
With that she turned to leave for good, tuning out his infuriated screams and leaving him to plot her demise.
She’d made a lot of stupid decisions in her time that were all predestined to be the death of her sooner or later. Who knew? This might as well be the one to finally do the trick.
She found herself strangely at peace with that.
