JP with Winteroak and Bandorchu
“Good fortune?”
Alexis wasn’t quite sure what he was getting at. Then his description of this brotherhood as of today drew her attention. Assassins, more or less integrated into society…
“Wait… are they these people wearing black?”
He nodded. "Yes, most were the dark robes as a sign of pride in their beliefs." He replied.
Alexis hesitated visibly.
“I… came across them before, while travelling the desert…”
Should she speak of the poor girls? He would never believe that, would he? It wasn’t
like she had any proof for her speculation, either…
"Not surprising. They make the desert their home. Rarely do we see them in Gra'akast in these numbers." He sighed. "They are likely here to answer the call to Holy War." The Horde had not been raised but it would be soon. The last Seer knew her knew incarnation would see to that.
Holy war. Her expression darkened. Funny. The Inquisition liked to call their forays ‘holy wars’ as well. As far as she was concerned, there was nothing ‘holy’ about war.
“I’d assume with that kind of history, they… are not allowed near the young women that are called to the ‘Wandering’?”
she inquired carefully. Anticipating his next question she explained:
“We heard about this in Desdem… we arrived shortly after the storm and a young girl had vanished during it.”
He cocked his head at her question not understanding her meaning. "Anyone can cross paths with those taking the Pilgrimage."
Ah, to ifrinn with it. He would not believe her. Couldn’t, really. But she would tell him anyway.
“Shortly before meeting them, our caravan had come across the second of two young dead girls. And they both died to blades.”
She looked at him somberly.
“I am well aware how that sounds coming from an enemy of your people. And it is merely guess work on my part. So make of it what you will.”
His eyes widened in shock. "You are suggesting they are responsible for the death of Penitents across the desert?" He couldn't be sure if he had understood her correctly and why knowing this she still wanted to investigate them. What was this accursed Hammer anyway, he wondered.
“I have no proof. But it is definitely what I was thinking upon meeting them. The merchants signalled to us they were assassins right away…”
She remembered that tense night very well.
“I would not have mentioned it, had you not spoken of their prior hostility towards your seer.”
His mouth dropped. There had been rumours about dead bodies across the desert but the Pilgrimage claimed lives everytime. Those the Twins found wanting. But this, this was a serious accusation. Although no Penitents meant no new vessel for the Prophetess.
Agizul truly didn't know what to say. He just stood there looking at Alexis Greyriver's eyes. Thinking, wondering what he should do next. If he should believe her.
