When the two fugitives had gotten enough rest, they began to get things ready to move on. Voah watched Gonyaul as he silently packed. Maybe his encouraging words made their way into her dreams last night because she was feeling oddly hopeful. Perhaps because he was still there and positive as ever. She slowly walked over to him biting her lip and grabbed the pack from his hand. Gently, she let it sink to the sand and looked at him with a sweet slow smile as she put her arms around him and rocked with him in the twilight as vultures circled overhead with hunger in their eyes. She would kill for this.
The storm had just begun and there was no running from the inevitable... Voah would live each day as if it was their last. When they reached this Holy City she would marry him and make their life as beautiful as she could.
They continued westward along the river toward Gra’akast. Voah wouldn't forget the dangers, for now they were much more real than ever before. She had begun to take her boon for granted. She would tread carefully on her numbered days as a glass-like woman, more fragile and delicate, but bold and vigilantly accompanied by a generous man who kept her glued together until she was whole again.
