Yes. Obviously, she would have much rather heard that her recent choices and actions were wise and thoughtful and that she was doing well in paving the way to reclaim a lost age of the true tenets of her Pillars… yes, of course she wanted that. Otherwise… it meant that she really was just a failure to the Gods and the Inquisition.
But there was also some comfort in knowing that for a time, she was doing right by those she believed in. Right by her mother.
This is what she had asked for after all, wasn’t it? Confirmation from her Silent Gods… but she felt it was too late.
So it turned out that she herself had been corrupted, her heart had changed and she was no longer that ruthless holy warrior that she had once been. Now she didn’t understand why, if she had allowed infidels and weavers to live, why if she had broken the one overarching, immutable tenet… why had Vastad not smote her into a fine pink paste? She thought by now she would have certainly met her grim demise.
Yes, even though her choice had been made, it was comforting that her God was still here and willing to speak with her. But if Vastad hadn’t come to smite, chastise, or guide her, or change her mind… then…
“Why are you here?” she asked, trying to understand.
