It was a hard parting from their haven in the desert. Several days of respite did wonders to help Voah and Gonyaul recover their strength, vigor, and wounds. The coyote bite and surrounding area still looked awful but it was starting to slowly scab over and Voah came to the realization that, for the first time in many years, this was a wound that would scar.
The Gods may have taken away her boon, but she would still carry them with her. Before leaving the fort, Voah found the skull bucket that had been their salvation, pressed her head to it and said a prayer of thanks to Zinheim and asked him to guide the spirits of the fort’s dead to his garden.
Laden with their cumbersome packs, a new map, and enough water and rations to keep them going for a while, they said their thank yous and farewells to Naravas and his people and set out northward.
During downtime, Voah had finished the Arisha Ikeburer for Gonyaul and marked details of their travels in her personal journal, keeping things brief or abbreviated where she could to conserve the ink.
Just as Naravas had advised, the journey took a little over three days to reach the river that would lead them to the Holy City.
