Evening Prayers
How was it that the question of whether there was water nearby, which was all the young woman had originally asked, had led to all of that, and still no answer? Why was everything so difficult on this journey?
So, maybe Islana was feeling a little sorry for herself as she walked away from the stranger with his roasting meat, water, tent, bathtub, and other creature comforts, but she was tired, hungry and more than a little annoyed that the man wouldn't even respond to her inquiries.
The redhead's moral compass was permanently fixed it seemed, even if it might be the death of her, and the woman didn't regret not staying with the odd man. It was still a little bit iffy if the right decision had been made regarding Kaithak. Maybe he would have been better off remaining behind, but the falcon never once left her shoulder, the entire time they were at the camp. Actually, he was still perched there.
Islana spoke to Kaithak, now as if talking to an old friend, a title certainly earned by the falcon.
"Well, at least that man gave you a little food. You know if you want to go back there, I wouldn't blame you."
The bird of prey didn't move however, except get a little closer, as if trying to say he wasn't leaving her. Of course, there was no telling if that's what was actually occurring but it was a nice thought.
Once Islana was certain they were far away from the smell of the meat, she sat down. It was just another sand dune among the many but it would have to do.
It was dark, except for the moon. The nighttime sounds of the desert had taken over, but those didn't scare the animal witch, actually there was a familiar comfort in them.
Using her ability, a few times, she called over some smaller animals and once again ate uncooked meat, sharing some with her winged friend. Using a trace amount of water to wash it down, and ending the meal with a few dates.
Then the young woman prayed to the Twin Gods, something she found herself doing frequently as of late. Prayers that the uncooked meat wouldn't make her ill, to find water, and that she and Kaithak would survive another day.
