Desdem: First Impressions
The mystery projections, conjured up in his mind, of what Desdem was going to look like were finally dispelled with the arrival at the village. They were a welcomed sight, for Gonyaul’s hope had started climbing earlier when he saw the expansive fields of wheat and barley. These were two crops he had experience with. In fact, he had advanced understanding on how to make such crops flourish in arid climates. Such knowledge could prove useful to these people and to the chances for him to find gainful employment.
More importantly, agriculture and permanent structures, meant there was food and enough water in the area to sustain life and a living. Perhaps it would be a place to consider making a home after all? It would be only a matter of finding a product or service that could meet the wants and needs of those already living in Desdem. Then practicing hard work and wise behavior regarding financial concerns. This in turn could lead to the success of having their own place, be welcomed into the community and opportunities for a family to thrive. The chain reaction in his imagination was encouraging and fun to play with.
Gonyaul shared all such thoughts eagerly with Voah. He understood if she still felt compelled to venture to the Holy City. He would not wish to stand in the way of her investigatory nature and yearning for justice. Yet, perhaps these ideas would prove more desirable than the former. He had nothing to lose by sharing. He had already gain so much by her love that whether they stayed, or whether they went onward, as long as they were together he was sure he would be overflowing with joy.
As the parade of pomp from the advertising Atsigani came to settle at the well, Gonyaul’s attention was draw to the dead tree with butterflies. He smiled in enjoyment. This tree wasn’t dead, he thought, it was more alive than ever. It’s leaves, the butterflies, moving like the flickering dance of flames. He was captivated and off in his own creative world at present.
