Kingdom of Torjas

A History of Helias Compendium - KoT

The modern borders of the Kingdom of Torjas have only been in existence since the end of the Noctua Inquisition, where the various city states from the region consolidated their power in exchange for military help with the war against the Central Realms and by implementing the extermination of magik users in their territories.

Torjas was an ancient thalassocratic civilization located in southern Helias, a state with primarily maritime realms. They were renowned among contemporaries as skilled traders and mariners, becoming the dominant commercial power for much of classical antiquity. The Torjans developed an expansive maritime trade network that lasts to this day, helping facilitate the exchange of cultures, ideas, and knowledge between major cradles of civilization such as Mizar, Salos and Kr'ull.

Much of their trade came from the Central Realms before the Noctua Inquisition and their partnership with the magik realms cemented their place as a power in Helias.
The territory of the Torjan city-states extended and shrank throughout history and they possessed several enclaves such as Bastion and Tell Arwar. Mostly based upon the coastal areas of Southern Helias their influence only started to really extend to the interior of their borders upon the signing of the Mizarian Accords and the declaration of war on the kingdoms of magik.

The Torjans were organized in city-states, similar to those of Mizar, of which the most notable were Ferkas, Tydon, and Kyblos. Each city-state was politically independent, and there is no evidence the Torjans viewed themselves as a single nationality and were governed by some form of kingship with merchant families likely exercising influence through oligarchies. King Seot united the city-states at the dusk of the Noctua Inquisition to better be able to compete against the emergent powers of Salos and Mizar.

Today the Kingdom of Torjas retains much of its original cultural identity. A land of courts and intrigue, of cloak and daggers, where everything has a price.
