"Finally, after over a month at sea, in the confine decks and holds of the ship, you almost cannot believe when you see land and dock in what is to be your new home for the foreseeable future. Huge cheers go up among the crew and the other passengers and you see the most manly of individuals weeping for joy and relief.
When your turn comes to set foot on this new land, everyone except for the most seaworthy salt-dog, feels a sudden rush of dizziness and sickness as your body adjusts once again not having to rock with the motion of the ship and and the sea. Part of you wishes you don't have to set foot on a ship anytime soon.
The ships will depart in 6 nights. During the Festival of Fall in honour of Hoi. Goddess of Sex and Fertility to celebrate the end of the harvests and the coming of winter.
Ostiarium. The Gate City. Your new home awaits."
Voah - As you make your way into the dock you are greeted by a Friar of Kupen. He is a tall and lanky man, followed closely by two hooded acolytes who offer to carry your belongings.
Friar Jassin Balvaris is to show you to your new lodgings situated in the Misty Ward, the smallest district, where a meagre community of academics and religious types make their home.
Wim - As you leave the boat the second mate, points out towards a huge man of broad shoulders and grey hair standing barking orders to a few uniformed men and workers. He has a large two handed sword strapped to his back and you are not filled with optimism as you cast your eyes upon him. Your father sure knows how to pick them.
Till - You know that it will be easy for you to lose yourself in Ostiarium. Every trip the ships make, there are always a couple of sailors that sneak off and a couple of passengers that beg to return as the immensity of life in the frontier hits them. However such a small settlement has very little room for vagrants you will be expected to find an occupation, soon rather than later, before questions are asked.
But the Gate City is full of opportunities if you know where to look.
