The Tour: B Deck

CSCCS Nomad > B Deck > Command/Crew Deck
"Alright. B Deck, the Command Deck. Also known as the Crew Deck. Bunks, labs, workshops, medical, the armory, mess hall, rec room, aaaand...the bridge. Most of you will be hangin' out on this deck. We go one more level up and you'll run into the Cryo Deck. Up to 20 pods. A couple of EEV pods. Another decontamination area with showers, and dorsal egress hatch.”

Elisabet silently monitored the crew, learning about them through their subtle actions. So far they seemed to respect the captain no interruptions or bad behaviour. It was all good to see. She brushed her hands through her hair as she turned back to listen to the rest of the introductory lecture. This was the first time she had had the opportunity to see the Nomad up and close, everything before had been documents and plans, it was all so much more impressive in person.

Garret tried to stay at the back of the crew. and just took his own analyses of what was going on and the equipment that was there. Sure Garret knew this was a low-budget. But from what he could see it was not a one-way mission to nowhere. That made Garret feel a little better. there was nothing remarkable about what he was seeing but good equipment by the look of things. He watched the others interact and things were going smoothly so far. But Garret knew within a week and let's see how things go.

Watching Elisabet watch him was a musing at times. Garret liked the fact someone was paying attention to the crew. but to what end? Corprit types were always hard to trust they always seemed to have a secret and ulterior motive. But what person does not have one?

*Rita didn't seem to notice, or really care if she is being watched. Her eyes are more focused on the items around her taking in what layouts, Rita seems to memorize the layout to navigate back this way should she need to.* "How large are the labs?" *Rita inquired now.

When they reached the Medical Suit it was very hi-tech and large. The medical lab and treatment area were larger than normal. This was due to the fact the ship had no medical pod. There were three different departments, each with a specialized and sealed area. One for Lab work one with a surgical room, and two examination rooms. In the lab were a few large boxes marked Chief Garret.

The four windows you could see through from the corridor, Were reinforced and could take explosions and bullets it showed the lab area and surgical area. With additional protection from metal shutters that will drop down if needed. Fire and other decontamination apparatuses. It had all the fail-safes anyone could ask for.

Adama was also busy checking out the mining equipment. He wanted to check on the diamond tipped drill bits to make sure they were new and not used since the would be less effective when worn out. He also checked the motors for any leaking fluids as well as any wear and tear. The motor needed to be in great condition to drive the drilling pipe into the ground. Since he was in the dark about the type of soil he would be drilling into he had to plan for something as hard as bedrock and hope for everything else. Bedrock was hard to drill through and it was the layer of rock that kept the magma from coming out of the planet's crust. Adama would normally do a survey first then take some core samples before he began mining for resources. This reduced the need to waste time, money and resources. He had a limited number of drill bits, spare parts and equipment to begin with and no way to get any spares if they broke on him. Sadly he had to learn the hard way when a company skimped on the tools and expected a big payday from him. For a orphaned thug from the streets he learned a lot dealing with not so nice people.

The crew was surprised to find the quality of the ship and supplies. Blackwood-Mori seemed to spare no expense on the things they actually did provide.

The mining equipment and vehicles were all top of the line and unused. The science laboratory encompassed a vast area divided into sections for biology, geology, botany, and chemistry. A variety of equipment was included, as well as deep-cold freezers and an enclosed decontamination area.

Povel gave a quick whistle with pursued lips when he saw the medical and science labs. The entire ship so far had been a true work of art, gorgeous from an interior design standpoint. The labs though took it to a whole new level, with the type of equipment he could see integrated and stationed around the place. These locations had a significant amount of potential energy consumption.

As Adama was checking over the mining equipment he took not of what was available.
Among the mining equipment he saw equipment including drilling rigs, blasting machines, and haul trucks. The drilling equipment included drill rigs, hoisting equipment, downhole motors, and other rig components used in well drilling operations. The blasting machines were reserved for special mining since the risk was high for injury. Then the haul trucks were simply used for moving the ore to the ship for the return mission. His goal was to find metals, coal, oil shale, gemstones, limestone, chalk, dimension stone, rock salt, potash, gravel, and clay. A good source of this ore would land a big payday for him and the crew when the main mining crew showed up to excavate after reading the data files and planning the next mission. He would be long gone after his check was cashed and onto the next job and paycheck. He smiled as he approved of the equipment.

Exiting the lab, Captain Yoshida took over the tour, directing the crew the cabins. There were three crew cabins in total, each containing four bed pods with privacy shutters.

"OK, people. You can have the morning to settle in, find you places, and change out of the EVA suits. We meet for lunch in the mess hall. Ms Maciel, your room is this way," said Yoshida.
