Surf Talking
Lunch Day 3
Joint post: Cindy and Red Sword 7
The whole day the divide among the school seemed to get bigger and Kyle wasn't sure if things might even escalate even more; if that was possible.
Kyle got some food and sat down at the table with the rest of the group. He saw that Sam and Heath were sitting together. Rose was sitting near JD. Courtney had returned from wherever she had been at breakfast. She was talking to some guy that Kyle didn't know but that was quickly taken care of as Courtney introduced him to Matt.
Kyle was taking a sip of his drink as a group of 4 extremely attractive girls walked by. "Hi, Kyle." They said in unison. As they gave him a flirty wave and kept walking before he could really respond.
JD grinned "if they only knew," he said under his breath. Thinking about Kyle JD had known he said he knew how to surf and had been doing all summer he thought. "Hey Kyle, I think you said you were going to surf at the beach party. So do you have your own board?" Asked JD.
Kyle nodded while he finished his bite of food. "Yes. I have two boards. I might bring both of them. I've not decided but one I'd be willing to loan out." He responded. "Besides, I promised a few people I'd give them lessons; that will be easier with a second board." He paused. "I think you said you'd be surfing as well. Do you have your own board?"
After he swallowed his food JD replied, "Yes, been at it for years. I am ok at it not though great." He looked over to Rose then back at Kyle. I am planning to bring two surfboards." He took a drink of his coke. "I have a beginners board and my main surfboard. and plan to have both there." He paused looking back at Rose "I just thought of something, Rose you don't have a wet suit do you? We should get one for you if you want to surf for any amount of time." JD turned back to Kyle "Kyle don't spend all your time teaching. I would like to see your mad skills in the waves. maybe a little comp between us?" Then his voice changed to a tone of disdain, "and take out any rich kid there." Said JD then started to eat more.
Kyle nodded and ate another bite as JD was talking.
Rose had been talking to Heath and Sam about a photography exhibition that was supposed to be coming to the area next month. The three though had taken a moment to eat some food. She had just swallowed her drink when she heard JD's questions. "No. I don't have one. " Nodding to what he said about getting her one. "Maybe, Friday we can go to one of the surf shops that's near the beach." She didn't mind buying one.
"Well, I'm always up for a friendly competition," Kyle said. A grin crossed his face when mentioned taken out some of the rich kids. " That sounds good, too. I bet we could completely wipe them." The rich kids always underestimated people and how good they were when it came to surfing. Kyle would have wagered a bet the rich kids that surfed could be beaten on the waves.
Kyle then said to Rose. "You're a gymnast, right?"
"Yes," Rose responded
"Word of advice. Think about the surfboard, kind of, like balance bean that moves." He then added. "It makes it easier that you already know about balancing yourself."
"Well, I was thinking it might be more like standing on a horse," Rose said; very matter of factly and not bragging at all.
Both Kyle and Heath stopped mid-drink to mouth and just stared at Rose for a minute.
Kyle then asked. "You've stood on a horse? I assume trick riding?"
"Yes," Rose responded. "I didn't do a lot but I have."
Sam laughed, "That never seems to not surprise people does it?"
"I guess not." Rose shrugged
Kyle turned back to JD. “I think that you'll have no problems teaching Rose to surf."
The comment of standing on a horse from Rose surprised JD. He had thought with her type of upbringing everything she did had to be right and proper. "I think he is right you might teach me a thing or two Rose," said JD with a smile.
Rose's parents clearly hadn't been there to see her stand in a horse because it wouldn't have been seen as a "proper thing for a young lady to do" but when the lessons were being given on trick riding in her old school. She took them and begged her older brother to go along with it. Being that it had been a boarding school; the school didn't need separate permission for her to take it.
Rose only had a more adventurous side with a few things in her life but trying things on the back of her horse, Midnight, was one of those things.
She smiled at JD and his words of teaching him a thing or two. "I'm not sure about that but learning to surf should be fun."
Kyle then asked JD. "Have you been to the surf shops at the beach?"
JD looked back to Kyle"the ones in this area in the summer I use to go to them to check out what they had Kyle," JD replied. He thought it was cool that Rose had surprises he wondered what would be next. So what about you Kyle been to the ones here?" asked JD.
"No," Kyle answered. " I transferred here this year and haven't gotten a chance to go to any of them. Is there one that's better than the others?" Kyle might have had money but it didn't mean he wanted to waste it on equipment that wasn't good.
"Joe's surf shop is the best and has the most equipment even diving stuff there," suggested JD drinking his coke.
"Cool," Kyle said. And then speaking of shopping. "Any idea where we're taking the nerds shopping, tonight?" ‘Nerds’ wasn't said in a derogatory manner as Kyle was saying just what they were.
"A few of the shops on the beach street and Joe's on the boardwalk," JD replied. Then the thought of Rose in a wet suit entered his mind and not a bad pitcher to have. He looked around the table trying to shake the pitcher in his head. He took a few more bites of his sub. "Kyle, are you going with us and the nerds shopping? Could use your help trying to make them look cool?"
"Yes. " Nodding towards Heath. "I'll be there."
Heath added. "JD, I thought the same thing. I think Justin was also coming." Justin the resident fashion expert was going to be useful in helping with the shopping; if he was still coming.
"Great, this should work out. I hope we can get everything they need," said JD as he ate the last part of his sub.
