When:- The day before the mission began
 
Vanessa tapped in the security code to her quarters in a hurry. This was the third attempt after getting it wrong twice. The panel buzzed and Holly's face appeared ona nearby monitor, in order to, not for the first time, run a security check on the person trying to enter, and remind her of the code.
"Done it again Vanessa?" Holly asked
"Um.....kinda...wanna let me in Hol?"
"Sure...the code's 030480"
"Of course!" she exclaimed "Jay's birthday!!" she tapped in the code and the door's swished open, she and Rufus entered.
Rufus was shaking like a leaf, he was entering a woman's quarters, that didn't belong to either his mother OR his sister he was overwhelmed with excitement, not only ad he had his first date, he'd managed to excite a woman, although perhaps not in the way some guys might hope...and even got invited to her room!
Trouble was, Vanessa didn't seem to see it in the same light, whatever...he thought she'd be so grateful to be human again that she'd be falling all over him. 
Vanessa rummaged around her quarters, trying to find something, ANYTHING that might contain a trace of her DNA, whilst Rufus looked on in awe...at Vanessa's miniskirt-clad legs.
Vanessa turned around sharply, catching Rufus' ogling.
"Enjoying the view?" she asked.
"Erm...no, I mean...um...yes....erm...."
"Relax, you're a guy..I've had worse! Look,  I found this will it help?"
She passed something to Rufus, who had begun to panic about not actually paying for the drinks at Les Royale Niples, he looked at the item, it was a single gold earring with one brown coloured hair caught in the pin.
"I was wearing those the day I was shot..." she explained "I figured it would be the most recent sample....Jay saved them after died, it hit him hard."
"I heard..my mother told me he lost you and your brother on the same day, and he even quit flying for a while..."
"That's what Alota told me the first time I was brought online...you know...maybe you should ressurect her instead of me..Jay deserve's his wife back..."
"No can do....your's was the only holo-disc left after the Hymenopteran war..i could bring her back, but wouldn't be able to upload her personality or memories"
"Well if that's the way it is...waht are we waiting for?" 
Rufus smiled, and exited Vanessa's quarters, heaidng for the science deck.

He managed, pulling out her chair for her inan attepmt to rectify the situation.Vanessa sat down, "So...." she said, as Rufus took his seat again, visiblysweating, "What did you want to talk to me about?""Erm..." said Rufus. "How about a..a..a..d..drink first?" his voice goinfpretty high pitched at the end of his verve-wracked sentence.Vanessa smiled and said:"Yeah sure. White wine spritzer please. With soda." Rufus got up to go tothe bar, tripping over his own feet and nearly landing on his face. Heblushed a fantastic shade of crimson.Vanessa shook her head with a smile, whether it was a smile of happiness orembarrassment she wasn't sure. One emoition she was sure of however wasanticipation, Rufus had said something about being able to help her, shedidn't know how...but it was something do with her holographic status. Shewas eager to find out what, but before that, she was gagging for thatdrink....she looked over at the bar where Rufus waited to be served. He was shuffling nervously, and lookedback at Vanessa shyly.He got drinks, only a coke for himself. Although he suspected the bartenderhad spiked it with something. He made it back to the table and sat down,giving Vanessa her drink. He sat there, quiet, too nervous to speak.Vanessa sipped her drink, and slumped back into her chair. "Just what thedoctor ordered..." she sighed, "Actually...he ordered the death of mybrother but a girls gotta drink!" Rufus shuffled nervously. "Oh come on itwas a joke!"e!! Keto, Jay.....oh never mind!""I think I can make you human again" Rufus blurted out. Unsure where theconfidence came from.Vanessa was stunned. Not sure what to say, Speechlessness wasn't a usualtrait of hers but here she was, stunned silent.She realised suddenly her mouth was gaping open, and thought that probablywasn't the most attractive she'd ever looked, so snapped her jaw shut andwent back to being shocked. "Wha....what did you say?"It worked with Dad.... If you dont count the midget." Rufus said, now hewas onto science he'd relaxed a little bit. "Its easy for the most part. Thehardest part will be finding some old DNA of yours." Rufus said, leaningforwards."You can really do that?!" she asked, still shocked, excited, but shocked,could she really be lucky enough to get a second chance at life? "Sure" saidRufus, "If you can get some DNA....""Jay kept alot of my stuff from when I was alive when I first died...he gaveit back to me when Holly brought me back online...there's gotta be a strandof hair on an old necklace or something....""I mean.
