Romantic Resurrections: Part Three

"Well if that's the way it is...what are we waiting for?"
Rufus smiled, and exited Vanessa's quarters, heading for the science deck.

Rufus bolted into the lab containing the ancient equipment that he had
used to clone his father all those months ago* cradling the strand of
hair on the earring. He stuck it under a microscope and examined it
for the root of the hair, the bit containing the DNA trace. He whooped
for joy at the sight of it and tenderly pulled the hair from the
earring and inserted it into a slot in a large machine that taking up
most of the room.
"I'm sorry, Vanessa, I'll need your light bee now, for the memories
and personality transfer." Rufus blushed as he spoke to Vanessa.
Failing to tell her that if it all went wrong then her light bee would
be destroyed and her personality lost to the machine.
"Sure thing." She said, switching to soft light and reaching into her
body and switching off the projection. She floated to Rufus, he held
out his hand and the bee dropped into his palm. He attached it to a
small egg cup shaped device on the side of the machine.
"Here's hoping it goes well." He said, hoping that she wouldn't come
out as a midget like Mini-Phil. He pulled a lever and crossed his
fingers. Sparks of energy danced across the room and the machine in a
complex series of action and reaction. An inevitable chain reaction
that would draw dust and cells from the air and form them into a
working human body in the chamber to the side of him according to the
input DNA and suck the personality and data from the light bee and
pump it into the brain. Rufus crossed his fingers and prayed to
whatever God of luck or science was watching that it'd work.
Slowly the energy died down and then stopped, residual traces arcing
across the metal. He checked the input draw, the strand of hair was
incinerated, and the light bee a charred mess. Rufus passed it off, an
unusual side effect, he had yet to see if it had worked though. He
noticed that the lever had fused and the energy levels had melted it
to the of position, rendering the machine useless.
"Vanessa?" He called softly, opening the door to the chamber. He
gasped and turned his face away from the sight in front of him, slowly
turning a bright shade of crimson. It had worked. Vanessa was there,
naked.
"It worked!" She exclaimed and got up, then realised her nudity she
turned away. Rufus stripped off his lab coat and handed it to her, his
eyes closed and turned away at the same time. She took it. "I need to
get changed and tell Jay! Thank you!" she said, running out of the
room, kissing Rufus on the cheek before she left.
