Investigation (Cyd & Mathias)
Camping was at a premium in LaJolla, with all of the families and festival goers. Mall parking lots were occupied by questionable thrill rides which just a few days ago were traveling on the freeway by semi trucks. The festival managed to snag a few bigger acts this year for its main stage, meaning music fans also flocked in droves.
“Well, at least there’s a water hookup, and electricity without a generator, Cyd offered, trying to see the bright side of having to pay for a spot - the same price a nice hotel would have cost. What was worse, the campground was filled with families, van caravans, and people willing to sleep in tents to be able to attend.
Mathias said nothing. He just gave a distasteful look at the situation as screeching children ran by. “I choose kobolds over this.”
“It will be fine,” Cyd promised, bumping him with her shoulder. “Couple of days, tops, give us an incentive to solve it quick enough. Besides, you’re… a fun fair kind of guy, aren’t you?” She couldn’t keep a straight face at the last part.
Mathias gave Cyd a grumpy look. “Please, they're only good at getting your wallet stolen and buying zeppoles.”
Cyd looped her arm around his and ticked her head to the side for him to follow. “We would have killed to go to one as kids,” she reminded him.
“For the food or the wallets?” Mathias asked with a wry smile and he was dragged along.
“I mean, both would have been great,” she
“Both still would be great.” Mathias said with a sly smirk.
“Bela has bailed us out enough, don’t you think?” Cyd chastised. “But I mean, zeppoles, funnel cakes - fair game. How about we hit up Ethan’s friends first, then take a look around?”
“Yea, yea work first then unhealthy carnival food and bad decisions after.” Mathias agreed.
“Then vacation,” Cyd reminded, “A real vacation.”
