Morning is Relative
Cyd ground the sleep out of her eyes and peered out of the Airstream curtain.Still raining, but that was the Pacific Northwest - all the time. It vaguely reminded her of back home, London, just more wooded and filled with hipsters and people over trying to be quirky. Not that this was home either, but they’d spent all night trying to convince a revenant to cross over, so they deserved a little R & R before moving onto the next case. Mathias, who’d done the brunt of the magical lifting the prior night would no doubt still be passed out in his bunk at the front of the Airstream - nearest the door, so he’d be murdered first. Mathias, she noted, was very considerate like that.
She was spent magically as well, a fact clearly evident as she looked in the mirror to find her hair had reverted to its original color of dark red. With that and her cornflower blue eyes she was now a near match in this regard to Mathias, her twin.. Of course, he had her in height by a good amount, a feat he achieved the summer of their twelfth birthday when she desperately tried to catch up. She also had softer features which like the rest of her were in desperate need of a shower. Luckily, with the bunk in the back, she wouldn’t disturb him and first awake got to have their fill of the hottest water.
With the first task of her mental to-do list achieved, she put on a pot of coffee and started to fry up the last of the bacon. They’d definitely need to restock before they headed out. There were only four eggs, three beers and a few fast food leftovers on the near bare shelves. “You good?” She called. There was no need to yell, the trailer was under 30 feet, but a simple yes, no or grunt would make her feel more at ease.
