Nikita: Circus Circus

After Olin left, the days seemed to drag even longer. There were more guests of course, but none quite like him. It was hard to put her finger on, but she missed him, physically, she was sick in bed for three days just thinking about him until one morning, the feeling was just gone. It didn’t dissipate over time, it was just like it never had happened, and Nikita was able to go back to work, smile pretty and hand out champagne flutes.

Nikita spent more and more time with the circus performers when she could, whenever Motel wasn’t around. Tier and Taika - big sweet kids at heart, and completely wrapped around Feng’s finger, while Rini and Rakki were infatuated with the boys, and, according to Brynn and Kiki, the four had not only hooked up but traded off several times.

All of them had an affinity for playing. When not training with Motel, there was a small volleyball court where Tier, Taika, Rini and Rakki would play doubles. Brynn and Kiki played pirates every chance they got, vowing to sail them all from the island for good.

“Don’t you like it here?” Nikita asked them one day, but neither girl answered, they were too involved in their role playing, acting out scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean, which they hoped Mr. Motel would let them add to their show.

Feng - Nikita spent the least amount of time with. When Motel wasn’t training with them for hours on end, she spent all of her free time above it all, high up in the trees, or Nikita wasn’t entirely sure where.

They lived, she found out, in the circus train, each car was actually designed as a small, studio apartment, much like her dorm back at the resort. They shared two to a car, which seeing as there were empty cars, they could have each had their own, except maybe Brynn and Kiki who shared the Caboose, and Feng with her own apartment in the car shaped like the engine. She visited on a daily basis, bringing treats from the resort in an oversized bag. Cookies, Fruits, leftover party foods, chips.

“Brynn, Kiki! Good news, plenty of coconut!” Nikita sang out, heading into the circus tent. Usually they met her on the path, Brynn and Kiki would run to greet her, pawing at the pack to see what goodies she’d brought. But everything was quiet.

“Tier? Taika?” She tried, knocking on one of the train doors. “Feng?”

She turned, staring right into the glowering face of the ringmaster himself, Mr. Motel.

“Oh!” She said, startled. “You scared me.” She offered him an Island Girl smile, but he was having none of it.

“Stay away from my performers.” He practically growled. “You’re a distraction.”

“I only come when they’re not practicing,” Nikita promised, still not seeing the problem. “I wouldn’t interrupt them when they’re working. And this is just things that would be thrown away anyhow.”

Motel grabbed the bag and tossed it to the ground. “I said, stay away from my performers.”

Nikita wasn’t overly fond of confrontation, but he was being unreasonable. “You don’t own them, they’re allowed to do what they want in their spare time,” she challenged.

“If they want to stay employed, they’ll do what I tell them, when I tell them,” He snapped back, grabbing her arm and twisting it. “If you’re smart, you’ll do the same or I’ll have Ari ship you back to whatever shit hole you came from, pretty faces are a dime a dozen, don’t think otherwise.”

“Lemme go,” She warned him, her heart beating so hard she swore he could hear it.

The door to the boys’ train car flew open, both Tier and Taika stepping out, both glaring at Motel. “Go on back to the resort, Nikita,” Tier said, not taking his eyes from Motel. “Just… stay at the resort.” He added, reluctantly. Motel smirked in his direction.

“See? They know what’s best for you,” Motel said, releasing her arm.

“Sorry,” Taika chuffed. “We’re all better off.”

Nikita glanced back at the train. Brynn and Kiki had been looking out of their caboose windows, dropping out of sight when Nikita looked their way.

Helga had a chat with the green-haired girl that night about the circus being off limits, and how her conduct could be considered unbecoming of an Island Girl. If Ari had caught wind of any of it, he didn’t say a word, but the entire circus area was determined to be off limits moving forward.

Nikita said she understood, but she didn’t. And Brynn, Kiki, they looked so scared that she couldn’t help but be worried about them, all of them, especially after Feng came to meet her on a hike one afternoon.
