The Dangers Of Memory And An Approaching Storm
“Then we should move fast,” Emma retorted and pointed in the direction she had come from originally to arrive. “I saw things...dangerous things. They looked hungry and were a few miles out when I was on my way here.” Going over to a pack, she tossed it over to Crow. “I don't much like to be food...”
As she worked with him to salvage what they could, Emma strained her ears and listened. She knew there were worse things out there than what was coming. She'd woken up to one the day she was 'reborn' as she called it. There was no other word for it since she couldn't remember a damn thing before that moment.
She could at least remember that day like it was happening right now...
***Flashback***
“-aking up!” Someone's voice yelled as she opened her eyes and took in blurry images. Someone was looming over her, a big shadow and pain was coursing along her chest. She tried to will her limbs to move, letting out a moan and something that sounded a lot like a whimper. There was no way of knowing for sure since that other voice was screaming now.
Limbs slowly responding to her brain's commands, she began to sit up, hands pushing at the looming shadow. “DAMN IT!” They responded and went sprawling to the floor. “What's going on out there!”
“It's them! It's them, doc!” The woman's voice screams again and Emma swears she soon hears ripping. Jesus, what was going on?! Was this some sort of nightmare?
Tumbling off what she assumed was a bed, the young woman scampered across the floor, fighting the pain that was screaming along her skin. The blurriness was fading, taking actual shapes and colors on, letting her know she wasn't in a bedroom. This was some kind of facility. Hearing that nurse say doc told her it was probably a hospital, but she wasn't sure.
Reaching forward, she felt around along a grate of some kind, trying to find a way to open it when-
Emma gets jerked back to reality by the sound of thunder and looks up toward the sky. “We need to go. Forget the rest.” She told Crow and started to head in the opposite direction of those things she'd seen and the storm.
They needed to move. Now.
