Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

Sewer - Sheridan, Wyoming

Finlay listened to Lydia’s reply actively. He realized he had quite the sheltered life, lucky that it didn’t get torn asunder by the natural disasters and he never experience disfunction due to the privilege of a loving family. Most were not as fortunate and he could empathize from the tone in Lydia’s voice. He felt a deeper admiration for her when she informed him of her group’s purpose; to help other mutants in need. He didn’t really fit that category.

“You live an interesting life.” He responded, choosing to leave out the … risky and dangerous part. That was obvious to all present. She would be going on to adventure, he would be going back to a remote farm life.

When they got to where they would part, Finlay held out his hand for a shake. “Thank you again for helping me … you know … not get arrested and my family having another girl.” He said that last part playfully to try and lighten the sweet sorrow of parting. There was a very good chance they wouldn’t see one another again. “Oh, and for bumping into me.”
