Honey, I’m Home
John’s House - Bighorn Basin, Wyoming
Perrine had assumed earlier that Sophia was on the search for someone that must have been located at the hidden mutant community. Why else would she be way out in the middle of nowhere, braving the alien landscape, and heading in that direction. Based on what both she and Honey now said, it seemed his conjecture was probably right.
He responded to Honey that the person they were looking for was most likely underground and the trail she was tracking would stop at the house up ahead. He knew how to take them where they seemed to want to go, so he assured Honey their final destinations were the same. Perrine hoped he was able to reunite them with the individual that helped them in the wilderness. The fact that gratitude had brought them this far was admirable. If he could play but a small role in seeing that message of gratitude get relayed it would be amazing.
It wasn’t easy but he was also able to go back and forth with Sophia several time. He explained, very briefly, that the person she was looking for was most likely under the house up ahead and he would help them gain access if possible. It was after all where he was bringing all these supplies.
Luna brought them right up to the front of the front porch. Perrine climbed down from his seat in one step and made his way onto the porch to the front door. There were lights on inside and he waved up to the security camera just before ringing the doorbell. He waited with a knowing grin with his guests; however, no one came to answer. He knocked this time, but still no answer. He guessed they must be all down below.
Perrine signaled to Sophia to wait and then went to landscaping in front of the front porch. He fiddled around with several rocks before coming back to the front door with a key. Opening the door, he went inside the place, gesturing her to come in with him. He began looking around the downstairs for signs of life. He noticed things were moved about in a normal lives in manner, so his doubts that something might have happened to them were thrown out the window. At one point he even trumpeted like an elephant, but no one came running to check.
Slightly embarrassed that their initial reception didn’t go according to plan, Perrine went to the fridge and procured two bottles of water. He offered one to Sophia before motioning with a shrug of his shoulders that no one was around. Then he pointed to the floor and gave a thumbs up.
“Vait till Dey coom ba Oop.” He fumbled. Perrine finished half the water bottle in one long sip. And with a stretch added, “vet bak to vork.” He gestured for her to relax and headed outside to begin unhitching Luna and tending to her needs. Once she was properly cared for he would come check inside again if anyone showed up from below. If not, he would start the unloading process solo.
