JP - From the Farm to the Cabin
Sorley wrapped up the remaining sandwiches and put them in a bag. He went up to his room and quickly packed a bag. Kiana was still packing as Sorley met Gelf on the porch, he offered her a sandwich from the bag. “You haven’t eaten yet.”
Gelf took the sandwich and smiled. "Thanks," She said and slowly ate it.
Sorley comfortingly rubbed the back of Gelf’s neck above her backpack. “How are you feeling?”
“Honestly, I don’t know…” Gelf admitted with a sigh. “I thought my sister was dead and now I’m suddenly finding out she’s alive.”
“Kiana and I have at least four brothers and sisters we have never met. As far as I know the only thing we have in common is him.” Sorley said, working down to massaging Gelf’s shoulders through the backpack straps. “It’s another chance. I guess.”
Kiana was still in her room struggling to zip her backpack shut.
Gelf smiled up at Sorley. “Yeah, maybe it is.” She told him.
Herbert realized how long Kiana was taking and went to check on her. “You okay in here?” He asked, standing in the doorway. “Looks like you’re about to go to war with your backpack there.”
“It’ll be okay.” Sorley smiled back at Gelf.
“I know I have fit all this stuff in here before.” Kiana said in frustration.
Walking over to her, Herbert helped by shoving the items in a bit better for her and zipped it shut. “There,” He said with a chuckle. “Stop stressing yourself out.”
“Thanks Herbert.” Kiana scratched Herbert’s back out of habit, threw on her backpack and hurried down to the others.
Herbert followed to the bottom of the stairs and watched Kiana leave. “Yeah…”
Gelf got up and looked at Kiana. “You two ready?” She asked.
“Yeah.” Kiana said, adjusting her backpack straps. “So… how are we going?”
“From what I understand, we’ve just got to meet up with Riley, Alex and them…” Gelf explained as she started walking. “Without the car, we can’t drive there, so lets walked to the highway road and we can get a ride there. I know a few people that owe me some favors for saving their asses.”
“Oh.” Kiana’s shoulders slumped. “I miss your car.” She said as she started walking.
Sorley walked alongside Gelf.
“Do you want to go rescue the car?” Gelf asked with a grin.
“Kind of… it’s part of the family, like a pet.” Kiana said longingly. It was how she escaped the farm when the dogs were being annoying, or the sexual tension between Gelf and her brother got too awkward. She had slept in that car a few times too.
“We’ll get you a new car.” Gelf said and chuckled. Once they were at the road, she made a call and a truck soon arrived, slowing to a halt by them.
“Ya know I could lose my job fer this, Gelfy?” The driver said as he bit down on a twizzler.
“You’ll be fiiiiiine, old man.” Gelf got into the back of the truck, pulling Kiana and Sorley in with her. “Off to the cabin to meet Riley and company!”
“You know this is how people get kidnapped, Gelf.” Kiana said as she got in the truck.
Sorley climbed in with Gelf.
“This is Charlie, though.” Gelf said with a grin. “He owes me a lot of money. Don’t you, Charlie?” Her smile was almost evil.
Charlie just bit down on another twizzler and got to driving, too scared to respond.
“How much?” Kiana asked curiously.
Gelf pulled out her notebook she often carried around and looked through it again. “He owes me seven hundred thousand thirty five, five hundred twenty five dollars.” She put the notebook away, smiling.
“Damn. Did he lose a bet?” Kiana asked.
“He lost at poker.” Gelf replied and giggled as they made their way to the cabin.
