JP - Reading Files
Caneclone would find a few rooms with beds for more guests, but only one was locked. It was Aberaham’s bedroom. There was also a small library and an attic that acted as a second floor bedroom with a bunch of boxes in it. These boxes had old files sitting in them that not even Abe knew about.
The boxes of files sparked Caneclone’s interest. He sat on the floor and started going through the boxes.
There was old information about metas that were part of the first generation, before they were deemed illegal by society. There were a few about metas that were alive now, one in particular with the name Thrane…
The only picture in the file of him was completely different from the man that the clone was probably used to seeing. There was anger in his eyes and blood ran down his chin, making him look rather feral.
“Interesting.” Caneclone mused, picking up another file.
The next file was of Thrane’s father, who was completely human, but executed for his refusal to hang over his son at the time. There were more about boring members, but eventually he would run across a pair of pink haired twins with cat ears.
“There are two of them?!” Caneclone eagerly read the file.
It explained their names and powers, but other than that the file stopped just short of them reaching puberty. It was almost like they just…disappeared.
Caneclone was disappointed, but he slipped Gelf’s photo into his pocket.
The next file was on Fang, who turned out to be a lot older than he appeared. It explained his power and how they never caught him or his “sidekick” as they called Lola.
“Hmmm…” Caneclone read Fang’s file carefully before picking up another file.
And that was Lola’s file. It, sadly, did not have much on her - not even anything about her power - because they had never caught her. That, or if they’d caught her it went unreported. There was a note about her always hanging around Fang, which the scientists found…odd.
Caneclone shrugged. He put the file back and picked out another one.
The rest would be just old dusty files about the scientists, notes about their daily work. Only one last file would have anything interesting. It would talk about mutations and gene splicing, along with cloning and other such information. There were sketches of ideas and pictures of the failures - grotesque and deformed abominations that made Loreen’s work look like a kindness. The only normal looking one was a girl that had no name. She only had a number.
“Weird.” Caneclone said and put the files away. It kept him entertained for a little while. BUt now he was bored again. He sighed.
The storm will have calmed down by now, but the power was still out. Though, the water worked at least…
Caneclone went downstairs and stared out a window, willing the rain to stop.
The rain would not stop. It would pour down harder!
“Dammit.” Caneclone sighed. He stretched out on the couch and stared at the dark TV as he dozed off.
The rain still would not be letting up when he woke up and the power would still be out, but there were a few more lanterns with Lola’s light in them. The sound grumbling could be heard from the kitchen and the front door had been left open…It was storming again, loud boom of thunder roaring and lightning flashing.
“Those better not be raccoons…” Caenclone groaned, afraid to look.
The grumbling stopped just as something fell and broke. “SHIT!” The voice growled. “Where the fuck is a first aid kit when you need it?”
Caneclone’s skin suddenly looked like that of an armadillo. He ran into the kitchen wielding the lantern like a club.
