JP - Ouija Board - Joseph

Cody set down three candles he had saved. “Just these.” He answered.

“And matches?” Ami asked. Of course she NEVER carried matches or a lighter.

Cody hunted through his backpack and pulled out a lighter. “I have this. I keep it in handy in case we need one for a camp fire. I should probably buy more matches…”

“Yeah.” Ami arranged the candles on the floor around the Ouija board, letting Cody light the candles. If found out by Tzeitel she would be in enough trouble as it is. She rested her hand over the planchette and waited for Cody to join her.

After lighting the candles, being careful not to jostle any of them, he joined Ami. No matter how much trouble they got in, he would always be there to back up the girl that was like a little sister to him - he’d decided long ago when they first met that he’d do anything to keep her and Tzeitel safe.

Ami made sure a pad of paper and a pencil was ready on the floor next to her. She rested her fingers on the planchette next to Cody’s. She tried to focus on Dr Chi as she waited for it to start moving.

They would soon have the planchette moving to spell “What?” out for them.

“Uh…What what?” Cody asked, blinking.

Ami was a little confused too. “Maybe they’re going to say more?”

There was only silence. “Maybe we need to ask something?” Cody suggested.

The planchette moved towards yes signaling that they would need to ask questions.

“Who is this?” Ami asked.

The planchette began to spell the name Joseph.

Ami glanced at Cody. She did not think Joseph was Dr Chi's first name. It did not 'feel' like Dr Chi either. "What do you have to say?" Ami had noticed that just letting them talk got her far when she could not think of specific questions.

Cody watched with a lot of hope that they could get some understanding from whoever this was. "Maybe they're a Pyro kid?" He suggested.

The planchette moved to no before spelling out victim.

Ami did not remember any pyro kids named Joseph. Whenever Ami blinked her eyes she could see images behind her eyelids. “Victim of who?”

"Stone" the spirit spelled out.

“Canestone?” Ami asked, closing her eyes, trying to see Joseph’s face.

Cody frowned deeply at the mention of that bastard. “What…what about him?” He asked.

"Killed me" it replied. "Monster."

Ami felt sick. “I’m sorry. He hurt my sister. She’s still struggling.”

“Is there anything you can tell us about him? Any…weakness?” Cody asked.

"Eyes and mouth" it replied "no hardened"

“I think they usually try to attack his eyes.” Ami said, remembering bits she overheard when the grownups did not know she was listening. “How can we help my sister?”

“Bury him” it replied “avenge us”

Ami looked at Cody. “We gotta kill him.”

“Yes, but where is he? How do we kill him?” Cody asked.

The planchet began to move through a bunch of numbers before spelling out Mark.

“Mark? Isn’t he the guy that Miss Delilah is married to?” Cody asked Ami.

Ami nodded. “I think he’s good at finding things.” She looked at the board. “Is there anything else we can do?”

“ Be Careful” it replied before no longer answering.

After it became clear that Joseph was not going to say anything else, Ami said ‘bye’. “We should call Mark.” She told Cody.

After saying 'bye' with Ami, Cody grabbed his phone and searched through all the numbers Tzeitel had programmed into it. "Here he is " Cody reported, finding the number and calling him. "Hope he answers…"

Ami started putting away the Ouija board, blowing out the candles and turning on the lights.

Cody kept calling when he didn’t get an answer. “Come on, Mark!” He grumbled.
