18: Moonstone

"Joshua, go and get another bowl from the cat... From Moonstone's cupboard. And pour some water in it. Cold water. She might prefer that to the milk."
The boy got up reluctantly, not taking his eyes off his new pet. "But all kitties like milk."
"Not all kitties sweetie. Some kitties know it might not be good for them."
"Not good?" the child asked as he splashed some water into a small bowl decorated with cartoon cats. He turned a quizzical eye on his mother.
"Would it be good for you to eat nothing but happy meals every day."
Joshua's eyes lit up. "Ooh happy meal."
"No," Emma stated bluntly.
"Awww."
"One now and then is a treat, cats cannot digest cows milk properly. And it makes them fat."
"Like Violet Beauregard."
"Yes."
"We don't want that Mama, Moonstone is already purple."
With the water bowl down Joshua and his mother watched Moonstone eating her first meal in her new home.
