07: Ayala - Bernice

Professor Bernice Summerfield smiled as she put her tea down on the table. "Did it not occur to you that if the young lady has her spear there is a bloody good reason for that state of affairs Mr Stevensen?"
This was not good. Bernice habitually called students by their first names, unless they were being a problem, the honorific followed by the surname was a dead giveaway. This was usually followed by a considerable number of punishment laps. "My main area of zero tolerance is being second guessed by students who ought to know better."
But he pulled it back when he spoke to put Ayala at her ease. Bernice smiled. He could be an arrogant know it all but he was a good lad at heart, he was one of the brightest prospects in her book. If he could avoid winding people up he would thrive here, it was ok to be a know it all if you had the 'know' to back it up.
Bernice didn't feel the need to jump in and defend Ayala, she was capable of standing up for herself, and she did so proportionately. Smart girl.
"Keep to simple language for now Ethan, remember. You might have to explain words like immersion. I remember Charles Xavier being asked about kind of learning. An information dump into the memory is useless because the recipient has no knowledge or recollection of what is there. Information without memory is pointless, . As far as I know we have only a single functional telepath here right now. And Jamie has his work cut out trying to teach you lot about mental shields.
