07.19: Ayala

Bernice had been about to assure Ayala but paused, being more secure than the home of the President of the United States would mean nothing to her. In that moment a scream could be heard, Bernice knew that it wasn't here in the dormitory the sound was all wrong. It didn't sound like the usual screams or yells heard in the girls' dorm anyway. She followed Ayala out onto the main corridor that ran the length of the house.
"It won't be anything serious," Bernice assured. Intuition and experience told her that it was something to do with Val's charge.
"Val?" she said into her phone which she had put on speaker.
"Not a problem, little bit of a freak out," Val said calmly.
"Thanks Val. Let me know if I am needed."
"Will do Benny. Bye."
Bernice looked at Ayala. "See. No harm done. No one in danger. This is what we call a phone, it is what we call a device and it allows us to talk to one another, in this case it is yet another safety measure. We are safe here, everyone is.
"This is a device, we have many different devices, some of which keep us safe. Some can see in the dark and over long distances, see if there is anything approaching in the air, flying... There are devices that fly too. They are way better at keeping us safe than people. We are safe Ayala. I have been here many years and no one has ever been a threat to the brood that live here, not once."
