07.13: Ayala and Dead Girl

Bernice was nothing if not observant, one of the useful skills when it came to supervising a kid’s dormitory. Ayala was getting overwhelmed.
“Ayala, shall we find you a room you like?” Bernice said, she held a hand out as she walked for the door. “Very nice to meet you Dee. I can usually be found in the office down the hall, or you can message me if I am teaching.”
Bernice walked with Ayala down the hallway a little to another room. “The outside rooms are the nicest, they get the best light and have good views over the grounds to the woods.”
Back in Dee’s room Val considered the idea that the Institute was dry. “The students are dry of course, and there’s no consumption of alcohol allowed near them. Actually my husband, Charles, had a very good wine cellar. Bernice I know likes a decent Irish malt and as for me… I prefer a good beer. It’s a pity about tasting the food, the meals here are really very good. I have a friend who took a bullet to the head and lost her sense of smell and taste, she got hypnotised to recall what things tasted like when she ate them. She could not cook any more but she could still enjoy a meal.”
Dee asking about booze made Val think for a moment. "I have just realised that you are too old for the student dormitories. We have some loft suites for individual living accommodation. Come, follow me."
The loft apartments were light and airy with large skylight windows, each had a small kitchen area, lounge space, sleeping area and bathroom. Val told Dee they could have it configured and decorated to her own tastes, but that that could wait until she was ready to make those decisions.
