Out But Not Down

Jonah put his pistol away and looked to the girls. "Everyone okay?" His eyes fell onto River as she tried to cover up. He just looked into her eyes, hoping she understood that it was over and that no one was going to hurt her. Then he looked to his sister. "Keep an eye on them." Then he stepped outside and called the police to notify them of what had transpired.

Soon police and press were outside. However Jonah had made a call to another one of his contacts and was able to make sure things were taken care of smoothly without Serenity or River having to be bombarded by questions. Noah was promptly scraped off of the pavement like the piece of human excrement he was and in a few hours later the commotion subsided.

Lisa waited for her brother to return from taking care of things and when he did she crossed her arms and looked to him. "You said you were out."

"I am." Jonah said with a smile. "But I still have favors owed me. That's all."

Lisa frowned at him. "You promised this would be done. That you'd get out of this and be straight."

Jonah stared at her. "Being straight didn't give you the home and food I put on our table, Lisa. I know you know that."

"That's not my point." Lisa said.

"Moving here is our fresh start, let's try to make it that and count this as a blemish that will be forgotten."

"You threw a man out of the top floor of this apartment!" Lisa said.

"And the fucker deserved worse! You saw what he was gonna do to that sweet girl in there?" Jonah tried to keep his tone from being too loud. "You'd have done the same."

Lisa hissed, knowing that he was right. "Let's just try and keep things on the down low? Okay?"

Tam entered the room now, sighing. "Is it over?"

Jonah nodded. "They'll leave us alone." Then he frowned. "Is River okay?"
