Morning comes too early

"Hey, Rose get up." Sam already knew this part of it. Getting Rose up in the morning was never easy.

A slight murmur was the response she got from the other girl.

Sam sighed and thought about letting her bff just sleep. Rose had ventured out of the dorm yesterday and that had apparently not gone well. A thought which led back to the conversation between the two girls from last night.

" So, what are the rumors? I mean how bad are they?" Rose had asked her.

" Are you sure you want to know?" Sam asked honestly.

"Yes."

"Well, some people are saying you were pregnant but most don't believe that. There is the you were in a drug rehab or maybe you were sick, like cancer or something. " That last one didn't sound too horrible to Sam, comparatively, but it still wasn't really the truth. "Some said you caught cheating and expelled but I assume, being you're back, that's not what they are saying anymore. Oh, and a few of the rich girls seem to somehow know about the accident well that's the rumors they've heard but like all the rumors they are unconfirmed."

Rose shook her head and looked down.

Sam sighed. "After you left, the rumor mill presented for about 2 weeks and then they found something else to talk about. Just give it some time. You'll be old news soon enough."

Sam though knew that if had just been the rumors Rose could have dealt with that but those on top of what else she was still dealing with was a lot and she could only hope it wasn't too much for her friend.

****
Rose felt something soft hit her head. "What, the..." Looking down to see the pillow on the floor.

"Get up." Sam laughed. "We have to go work out."

Rose was about to say something about how it was too early. Morning always came too early for the girl. Sam beat her too it and saying she wasn't going to take no for an answer. As much as Rose wanted to sleep, she knew her roommate was right. She had done a lot of work to get where she was physically but she needed to work to maintain it. If she was lucky she could stay in shape enough to go back to gymnastics.

The two girls got ready and put on some workout clothes. Then they headed towards the track. The only people who would be up this early would be the athletes and even not all of them. Which could be a nice reprieve from yesterday.

As they made their way out of the dorms. Sam asked. "Tumbling or track."

Rose said she wasn't sure and waited before giving an answer but seeing the girls working out in the gym made her want to go to the track. Sam nodded. "Ok, track it is."

The two girls warmed up and stretched before proceeding to the track. There were a few people already there. Rose thought she recognized some of them. She knew she recognized the guy she noticed looking at her yesterday. She thought JD was his name.

This school being what it was everyone knew everyone after they had been here long enough, or so it seemed. So, she knew he was a scholarship student and maybe a jock but it wasn't beyond what she might know of anyone that had been there long enough.

The two girls hit the track and started jogging. Rose wasn't exactly up to her normal fit self and she knew Sam could set a faster pace. "If you need to, you don't have to wait for me." Sam didn't look convinced. "Promise. If it gets to
be too much I'll stop."

Sam shook her head. "Nope." With a that's it, no arguments way about it.

Rose actually liked that someone was that concerned about her but she didn't want to hold the other girl back. She figured the slight mother hen Sam had going would die down after a few weeks, anyway.

They started to catch up to the guys in front of them enough they could tell their was some talking going on but not close enough to make out what was being said.

Sam then spoke up. "Just think. This then coffee."

Rose laughed slightly. Sam practically lived on coffee. "Oh, that does sound worth it."
