Conner grinned at the DQ statement. He had been in a few rural areas camping and family vacations even he had stopped at DQ's before. Only having that wow that sucks he thought.

Conner: I can not say I had that experience here where I grew up. I was raised in this area the Zoo here is not that big but I can take you there one day. Now the Sand Diego Zoo is one of the biggest in the world and they have Sea World, think of that as a huge aquarium with shows. but to go there would take more planning. You will find that the city has a lot of stuff to do but sometimes it can get overwhelming. the countryside has its perks too. like life can be simpler. Wow, listen to me I sound like a salesman.

Conner wondered what Blossom must be thinking of him he had never questioned himself like this. Blossom was not one of the Beach blond airheads he normally deals with. But neither was Kaylee. He wanted to scream. He paused gathering himself.

Blossom: Wow that sounds amazing. I wonder if the others want to join us as well?

Blossom was glad Conner wanted to take her to the zoo and Sea World. Making new friends was important to her. Granted Conner was cute but she didn't think he saw her in a romantic light. Since he was nice to all the girls he talked to and most of them had a better figure than herself she figured he was just being nice. Since she was used to being passed up by guys she would not realize it if anyone was actually flirting with her. In this case Conner had to come out and tell her he was a big flirt for her to pick up on that. Sadly she had no clue if Conner was to be more than friends with her.

Blossom: If we go as a group the other single people won't feel awkward right? I wonder if they have been to the zoo and Sea World already.

Conner: don't know, but ya we could make it a group trip we have enough cars I think.

Then Conner wondered would even be interested in going alone with him. He could see where Blossom stood right now or even if she had any interest in him at all.

Conner: So ah... do you like a group better or would you mind going just with me?

Conner wondered after he said it if he was being too forward with Blossom. Was she missing his ques was he missing hers maybe all she wants right now is to be friends? He had a feeling he was about to find out.

Blossom smiled as Conner was open to others joining them at a future outing at the Zoo and Sea World. He seemed like a very nice guy and any girl who won his heart would be a lucky girl. She blushed as she imagined being his girlfriend and holding his hand, but that dream was quickly dashed away as she imagined him with Kaylee and several other girls. She doubted her chances since she was lacking in feminine charm like the other girls. Being told she was flat and plain by others back home conditioned her to lack confidence in herself when it came to appealing to boys. Then Conner mentioned a lack of transportation involved with the zoo plans.

Blossom: Oh you're right. more people means more cars huh? Sorry I am not used to stuff like this since we didn't have much back home.

Blossom rubbed her chin as she recalled her family riding in the back of the pick up truck when they traveled to nearby places back home. Since money was tight they didn't splurge on big fancy SUVs like they did in the big city. She began to count the number of people that might go and how many can fit in a car till Conner asked if she preferred a group outing verses an outing with only the two of them. This made her pause in thought as it sounded like a date. True Conner was a flirt but Blossom could not believe he could not possibly be interested in her in a romantic manner since he had prettier girls to choose from. So she decided to make sure what he meant as her cheeks turned red with nervousness.
Blossom: Huh? Ummmm.... Conner I am not sure how things are done here in California, but back home in Dot, Montana if a guy asks a girl out to a place and its just the two of them, then its usually called a date. So its a little embarrassing for me to think you would want to go on a date with someone like me. I mean you are a cute guy and could do way better than me of all people. After all according to the others back home I look like a plain skinny middle school-er with no curves. Guys just don't see me that way.

Then Blossom lowered her head as she looked at the sand. She was pained by the sadness of not being seen as cute or pretty. It was nice that others wanted to be friends with her, but in the back of her mind she would always feel not good enough. As she looked at the sand some small tears began to form on her eyes.

Blossom: Sorry. I just don't want to get my hopes up when there is no chance for that stuff. So please don't tease me about it okay?

Conner gives a sigh, looks at her sternly at first then a warm smile putting his hand on her shoulders gently and facing her.

Conner: Stop that! you have a lot going for you. so what if you are a late bloomer.

Conner softens his tone and give her his charming smile.

Conner: You will turn out fine. Probably next year you will come back and put the rest of the girls to shame. Sure I flirt and tease some with girls. but if I ask them to go out or date I am not doing it to be mean. I am doing it because I am interested. I am interested in you. You are not one of those beach blond bimbos sure they are fun but not as a girlfriend, well not for me anyway.

Conner paused to let Blossom think on what he just said.

Conner: you have a lot going for you. Your beautiful brown eyes and your sweet personality. You can smile and make the boys wish they had you as a girlfriend. You have so much you just don't see it. You don't need to have all the curves to make boys attracted to you. You have Ash and the other girls to help you with that. Don't think I don't ask people like Courtney and JD about clothing or even how I should cut my hair. what looks good and what does not.

Conner realized how he must of sounded. thinking she was probably mad at him now and he would have to face Ash later. He had never talked to a girl like this in his life, not even Courtney. He just let his feeling and what he thought show and was not sure how Blossom was going to take it. Maybe he was too straightforward with her. he almost just wants to run at this point and feeling foolish.

Blossom was shocked by Conner's response. Her eyes got huge and her mouth dropped open as he seemed very upset by what she had said. This was the first time anyone had ever talked to her like that. She was expecting Conner to blow her off and act like her plain looks were not a big deal, but he was very upset that she saw herself like that.

Blossom: Oh.......

Blossom wanted to respond to his rant but could not find the words as she was overwhelmed by a wave of emotions. Conner was literally upset because she referred to herself as plain and curve less. This went against everything others had told her in the past like her relatives, friends and classmates. Granted it was a lot for her process in a short time, she was still glad he said it. So far, Ashley was the only friend she had that called her cute and now Conner was the first guy to call her cute. Part of her wanted to doubt him, but the look in his eyes told her he was very serious about this conversation. Conner had the same expression on his face as her dad did when he was dealing with a dangerous cattle drive. She had a warm feeling in her chest that was only comparable to a few events in her life such as riding her first horse, making the cheer squad and getting her acceptance letter and scholarship to go to Sakura Prep High School in California. She looked at Conner and her heart began to flutter a bit as he face was red. She swallowed and hoped she would not feel gassy at this point as she looked Conner in the eye and nodded.

Blossom: Ooooo-okay. I will go on a date with you.........., but it will be my first date okay?

Conner was glad that she took it so well. He was happy with her response. he could see that Blossom was nervous about everything. He brushed her bangs to the side with one hand. He wondered if she would not be overwhelmed by him. Conner turned with a smile. He held out his hand so she could hold it if she wanted to.

Conner: Let's go cutey, and yes it is ok if it is your first date I feel privileged to be your first. Still can not believe no one has asked you out before.

Conner felt good. He felt the breeze blowing seeing the moon reflecting off the water and Blossom the feel of the sand under his feet. She looked young but he knew or could feel there was a woman about to enter the stage of life. Even it did not turn out for them he would adopt her as a sister. he only had a brother He smiled he thought even his mother would go for that. Time would only tell what road their new relationship would follow.
