If You Only Knew
Courtney had sat across the way from Heath and she could hear the plans for the shopping trip being made. She wondered whose idea it had been, still, she got what is was attempting to be and hopefully, the nerds wouldn't take it the wrong way.
She couldn't help but smile slightly as she looked in Heath's direction. While Courtney knew no one else at the table would pick up on her smile, her glances in Heath's direction or her subtle movements. She was failing at hiding them enough that Conner wouldn't notice though the almost fight and the girl guessed, his seeming interest in Jocelyn seemed to have him preoccupied, from what she could tell.
When her phone went off she noticed it was Sam inviting her to go on the shopping trip and asking if there was anyone she wanted to invite. Courtney wasn't really big on girl style shopping trips but it did give her an excuse to invite Jocelyn somewhere and maybe get to know the girl who had her good friend so interested. So, she responded to Sam with that. Even if being around Sam wasn't that easy for Courtney at the moment.
While Courtney liked Heath, a lot. Heath and Sam liked each other. She had noticed the way they looked at each other or, accidentally, brushed each other's hands. The two had had a few dates last year and they seemed to have a connection. Then Rose didn't come back and it seemed as if Heath and Sam had put things on hold or something. Courtney wasn't sure but they weren't dating, she knew that much. Which left her in a spot. How could she be around the two of them and not let it show? How could she not be around either of them?
So Courtney being Courtney sucked it up. Took a lot of deep breaths and smiled as if nothing was wrong as if she didn't have those feelings for Heath because what was she felt was the right thing to do. She couldn't get between them, she wasn't the type of person to do that but it was hard for her.
Dawn came back with her water and sat down. She turned to Courtney. "Are you going on the shopping trip?"
Courtney took a second to realize someone had talked to her. "What? Oh, yeah. It should be fun." She smiled at the other girl while the inside was wondering if she had made a mistake saying yes to going.
