So, my stinkin' luck brought yet another obstacle for me to face; the meaning of truly being a moderator.
You see, up until a few minutes ago, I was absolutely certain that being a mod means setting a certain goal for players to fetch and then summing it up a few posts later, but apparently that's not the case. I was dead wrong.
A very skilled player have quit my game and sent me an Email to let me know how I've let most of the characters in my game be too powerful and make the story focus on them once I've set some target for them to go after. I didn't realize it until now, but he was entirely correct.
Moderating = moderating certain unacceptable things that the players are doing, and I neglected that part completely, somehow, and I couldn't be more disappointed in myself as it led me to lose a player who was following the plot tightly; shame on me.
Also, I feel like it's no longer quite possible for me to affect the flow of things since the narrative is already set in stones; my power as a mod is gone.
While it's a lesson for me, I feel like I let my players down, and for that I am truly sorry.
