Okay, so, I know my last game based on a ship in space didn't work out BUT I think I know where we/mostly I went wrong. So don't worry, I think this idea is great.
Right, have we all seen Stargate? WHAT? You haven't? Okay, go watch the 100 seasons of Stargate there seems to be and then come back.
Okay, so, this is the set up of the game I was thinking. Basically, we take the format of Stargate: Destiny, which is a ship in space that has a Stargate but we make the ship a bit more professional, if that makes sense? Or at least start off like that.
The background of the game would be a rip off of Stargate. So, we have a gate on Earth that can dial an address and take us to a place. But how about instead the gates can only be used to take us to a ship, like Destiny, and can't be used to dial to other planets.
But from the ship's gate we can go to any planet we want, but the longer the distance the more power it takes. So we could fly around space to try and get in the region of gates to dial to them without draining all the power. Earth might be a long way away, and take lots of power to dial it, so we only dial it for emergencies, or maybe like a monthly replenish of supplies or something?
The gameplay would be just dialling to a nearby gate from the ship and exploring it. Maybe not encountering any sentient life, to begin with, but doing so eventually if the players wanted to?
I realise the setup is a bit contrived because I like the idea of starships, but I'd appreciate feedback.
