The Long Night

Katya followed Sir Simon through the forest as the sun set, quickly causing darkness to envelop the forest. And with the darkness came the bugs. The nightlife produced an impressive cacophony of chirps and other noises. The insects were also quite hungry, unfortunately, and Katya got bit by quite a few of the blighters, though she suspected Striker had it much worse. As the sun completely fell out of the sky, the darkness became quite oppressive, to the point that she could barely make out Simon and his steed in front of her.

Even with the noise and the bites, Katya felt her eyes drooping as the events of the day caught up to her. This night was going to be a very long one, but she forced herself to stay awake, if only barely.

Hours passed. Other than hearing a few ominous noises in the forest, nothing eventful happened, and eventually the darkness receded. As light began to penetrate through the forest, the smell of cooked bacon and other pleasant breakfast smells struck her nose.

"Wha, what is that smell?" she mumbled.
